DOWNTOWN | Mercedes Benz Stadium | 71,041 seats | U/C
At this point it seems a new stadium is all but a done deal.

The 3 to 5 finalist (architects) were supposed to be selected yesterday. Has anyone heard who they are?

Why not put the stadium in the old GM factory area off 285 - now vacant, excellent access to MARTA and gets this behemoth out of Downtown.

Site of Falcons new stadium...
Has the site of the new stadium been determined yet? I read a post a few days ago (I don't remember exactly where in the forum) that it looks like the site most likely to be chosen will be south of the Georgia Dome? I'm not sure if that is accurate. Does anyone know? Is the location narrowed down to north or south of the Georgia Dome or is there still a chance it could go elsewhere such as in one of the suburbs? Thank you in advance!

The south site is much preferred because it would have convenient access to a Marta station. Now that the Falcons and the city have reached a tentative agreement, any talk of moving to the suburbs is moot. That deal reached is not dependent on getting the south site because the north site is already owned by the GWCC. http://img.bleacherreport.net/img/ar...650&h=433&q=85 |

smArTaLlone, thank you very much for the information and image. I'm glad the stadium will remain downtown - I'm already imagining some great views of the downtown Atlanta 'scrapers from various vantage points inside the open air stadium...

Here's the other retractable roof NFL stadiums. I like the way the one in Indy looks almost like some giant factory or something.

So if it were up to you, what you put on the site of the current Dome when it's walls come tumbling down? You just know the inclination is going to be a parking deck/lot.
How about an amphitheater with parking underneath perhaps; that could be agreat amenity for the complex. Any other ideas out there? |
