This would be E.A. Forrester's house at 949 West 7th Street-- where the Statler/Wilshire Grand is about to no longer be. He moved to 1121 S Lake St between 1905 and
1907, and that house still stands:

Thanks for clarifying this casa's exact site by dipping into an 1890 record ! BTW - when I entered FORRESTER into LAPL Photo Collection search - Wow! Came up with a 1949 trove of a white slavery trial on "pandering queen" Ms.Forrester-hope she did not besmirch her namesake's heritage! Do check this out (if not a prior entry!)

Fantastic! I wish whoever took those had done the same thing for all the streets of Downtown!

I really agree Scott, I love em. Several are so good they stand alone and if we were ever to have a noirish Los Angeles get-together, I'd want to have it at Dave's Music Box, which is, of course, alas long gone.

:previous: I have to agree, 'the Main Street between 6th & 7th' photographs are some of the best that I've ever seen.
Also, great post on the alligator farm bifrayrock...very impressive. :)

Do not recall seeing this particular photo of the San Fernando Street Elevated. A note accompanying this photo indicates abandonment in 1904 - approximately 5 years after its construction. Abandonment, as distinguished from demolition?

Have previously seen this lithograph (ca.1877) in much larger format, but perhaps not on this forum. (Print was memorable because it was before Brooklyn H[e]ights acquired an "e" in its name);) Wish the search functions, or my ability to navigate same, were a bit more up to snuff. Nice! I can just make out the giant old sycamore tree that gave Aliso St. its name. And there's Macy St.'s covered bridge over the Los Angeles River again, too. I'd love to see the large format version of this old pano sometime!

Fascinating how both structures take advantage of the "layered" (or "littered") look. A precursor to the Transformers? PreGoogie?

Alligator Ranch, a misguided homage to Mt. Vernon, the Parthenon and Noah's Ark? Is the uppermost structure originally from a covered bridge? Same imaginative designer responsible for the Gator water slide (see above), before being eaten by the gators?
