920 feet is the official height so second tallest building in the city if constructed.

This sits on an elevated portion of 14th street, so it will look even taller.....

So is it going to happen?

Does the little "wings" at the top where the glass extends past the roofline count? Would that be total height, or just last top floor height? I can never keep straight what does and doesn't count. Those would also make it seem even taller.

Also, with the master plan and all, are they reserving room for later development? Since it's the same master plan architect, wonder if they will be connecting all that with a plaza or walkways.

Chris, you are suggesting the possibility of additional Opi down the road?

The building will be called Opus Place with the master planning & cultural pavilion (read amenities) by famed starchitect Richard Meier & Partners Architects. Right now, we are hearing there will be 382 condos, 180 corporate suites, over 60,000 square feet of ground-level retail and over 8oo parking spaces. The building will be approximately 1,246,587 sq. feet.

From the architects( The Atlanta office of Perkins + Will) :

Located adjacent to the Arts District of Midtown Atlanta, 98 Fourteenth Street is the initial phase of a master planned development which will be an integral component of the Midtown Art Walk, a unique pedestrian experience containing creative landscape, lighting, and interactive artistic elements along a half mile promenade between key transit stations in the district.

The initial tower of up to 74–stories is comprised of up to 382 luxury residential units and up to 180 corporate suites in a single structure inclusive of ground level retail and enclosed structured parking. Four distinct curtainwall glass planes define each of the symmetrical sides of the tower.

Residences’ will range in size and offer different floor plans. Residential amenities are anticipated to include a full-floor Sky lounge with floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the Atlanta skyline; conference and media rooms; a heated, infinity-edge pool; state-of-the-art fitness center and yoga studio; designated children’s play area; dedicated bike storage; temperature-controlled storage for food deliveries; a private dining room; and a top-of-the-line kitchen and bar catering to epicurean enthusiasts.

The tower will have an extended second level connection to Peachtree Street and to 15th Street. These connections will increase pedestrian circulation within the block. It will allow for an art walk from the Arts Center MARTA Station to the Midtown MARTA station. Additionally, it will create a unique mid-block connectivity between the existing adjacent towers and initial & future phases of the 98 Fourteenth Street development.

I don't think I've seen the tower from this angle.
Edit : Never mind. When I first saw it I thought it was new.

Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Residences

It seems the Opus Place will be a Waldorf Astoria Hotel and Residences. :psycho:

I have a feeling this is going to look like the tallest building in the city. BoA's height seems exaggerated by its tapering spire, but this is a building in full.

Waldorf will Not be a part of No2 Opus Place

Ooops!

I did wonder why there were two separate websites for the same tower. It sounds as though the price point will be slightly less than what would have been possible with the Waldorf branding.

Quote:

According to the VP at Berkshire Hathway HomeServices Georgia Properties’ CITY HAUS Division, Kerman Haynes, “Waldorf Astoria will not be involved in Midtown Atlanta’s newest condominium tower, No2 Opus Place. While developers were at one point in discussions with Waldorf Astoria, these talks ended in June 2016. Ownership elected to build a very special residential tower without a hotel component due to the strength of the condominium market in Atlanta.”

Haynes went on to say, “It was a smart move on their part given the amount of interest we received from our registration website and site signage all before the opening of the sales gallery. The ability to offer additional building services and amenities, while lowering the common charges, was another consideration that will benefit buyers at No2 Opus Place.”

NY's Alexandra Champalimaud, will lead the interior design of No2 Opus Place.

No 2 Opus Place to be 53 stories

Quote:

Developers of a proposed Midtown skyscraper at 98 14th Street have backed off the idea of wooing a hotel brand.

The tower, initially pitched as a mixed-use project potentially rising up to 74 stories and including a hotel, is now being planned as a 53-story condo building, according to a development team led by Olympia Heights Management.

Next up, this project will stall and not happen altogether. We've seen this nonsense in Atlanta over and over. More construction vaporware like the Mandarin on Peachtree project, etc etc etc.

This project is dead...I think that the development cycle is on the wane...this project, Eviva and the Underground renovation will probably have to wait 3 - 5 years to get going if they actually ever do...

Libertarian Feb 1, 2017 5:22 PM

I predicted on these pages that this project was dead from day one when it was originally announced several years ago. The developers aren't heavy and were angling for funding. Always check developer quality.

ThrashATL Feb 1, 2017 5:23 PM

If this had come along 5 years ago rather than that bulbous Arquitectonica 3 building mess, it might have had a shot.
