NASHVILLE | Music City Center (new conv. center)

Nashville's largest ever public project is well underway right now and at this moment over 1,200 yards of concrete are being poured tonight. This is known as "The Big Pour" and should be completed before sunrise.

The new Music City Center will total over 1.2 million sq. ft., with over 370,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, as well as a 60,000 sq. ft. ball room at a cost of $635 million. It is being constructed in the SoBro (South of Broadway) district in downtown Nashville, only a few blocks S of the current convention center on Broadway.

In addition to the convention center, a new, 1,000+ room anchor hotel adjacent and connected to the MCC. Most recent developments are that Texas-based Omni Hotels is interested in purchasing the hotel site and constructing the hotel. This site is located directly south, behind, the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum.

OxBlue has established a webcam atop the SW corner of the Pinnacle at Symphony Place tower.

Nice to see a thread started on here about the MCC. Any idea on new renderings for the anchor hotel? I'm guessing the talks about a smaller 400-500 room hotel have stopped.

This was the original rendering, when the hotel was supposedly going to be a Marriott Marquis, but those talks broke down. No official word from Omni or the City of Nashville, but Omni Hotels seems to be the most likely chain now.

This original hotel was going to be in the 500ft-600ft range.

Yeah, I remember seeing those rendering a year or so ago. Hopefully a deal can be made with Omni and construction can start within the next year.

Now don't forget, there are a few other hotel proposals in the downtown and midtown areas, and they're likely hanging with what happens with the MCC. The anchor would be around 1,000 rooms.

These are a few:
Hotel Intercontinental, which is part of the two tower West End Summit project where Broadway and West End Ave meet. It has been approved for years, but is still waiting for that major tenant to sign on.

Hotel Palomar, which would occupy at least 15 floors of the Signature Tower, which may or amy not come to fruition at some point.

Then there is the possible other convention center hotel, possibly located on the NW side of the hotel, which would be 400-600 rooms. This proposed other hotel is visible in some renderings.

I haven't been paying as much attention to the development in Nashville the past few months as I used to. I thought WES was pretty much dead just like the Signature Tower. Are they still pumping water out of the huge WES hole or have they stopped?

I know there was a proposal for a Westin that fell through a while ago as well as a number of mixed use and condo towers like Griffin Plaza, Encore 2, The Eakin Twin Towers, etc.

I hope the MCC sparks hopefully two or more new hotel towers. Its good to see Icon, Terrazzo, and Velocity filling up.

Also, I have been to Nashville many many times and have always enjoyed it there, but doesn't everyone think that photo looks a lot like Houston back in the day?

Hardly close to being that bad.

The original Marriott Marquis propsal would've gone on the lot to the right of the lower right corner, behind the Country Music Hall of Fame.

However, this lot is the site of the current in works Omni Hotel, which would be the anchor hotel.

Lol, nowhere near that much surface parking in Nashville.

So why another convention center?

The current one is outdated and much too small for conventions to use, namely the size conventions that the city is trying to atract. It has also been in the city's long-term plans for many years now and this will be Mayor Dean's legacy project. The previous mayor, Purcell, tried to get this going but couldn't get enough support, but that changed in the past 2 years and now has come to fruition.

The current convention center only offers a total of 118,675 sq. ft. of exhibit space, and the ballroom is not very large either. There is an excellent, approved project that will reuse the current space, the Nashville Medical Mart.

The two neon green boxes are two completed projects in SoBro. The one catty-cornered to the hotel site is the Encore Condminiums. The other, large box is the Pinnacle at Symphony Place office tower.

4 tower cranes are currently on site. When this center is in full gear, it may have up to 6 or 7, not counting the one or two needed for the anchor hotel.

I hope to get down there this weekend and get some pics up because this project is massive, one of the largest currently in the country, and is very important to the city.

A section of the northern side of the building is preparing to crest street level. Outside of that, nothing major going on, besides tower crane #4 being struck by lightning yesterday.

A little more information;

The ballpark proposal is beginning have serious discussion. If built, it would either be north of downtown (Sulpher Dell) or possibly at some yet undecided location in the SoBro/Rutledge Hill general area.

A secondary hotel (or more) is very possible, not necessarily at the shown location.

The old Thermal site (shown in red on the right) would very likely be the site of an amphitheater.

The Pinnacle Office building was not shown in this view. I have added it.

So, they are cutting off the grid and making it harder to drive around downtown? hmmm

Actually, 6th Avenue will pass directly under the Center in a north south direction. Circulation east-west will be improved greatly by the extension of Korean Veterans Boulevard (not Parkway).

The area had poor circulation anyway, and should be impacted minimally by the center.
