"Metalsmiths is staying where they are. They had signs up that they were closing for renovations. Not sure how they afford to stay in a space but that seems to be what is happening. Could be the same for Aldo Accessories but wouldn't be surprised to see them gone."
It's interesting because they are still listed on 20 Vic's floorplan in the same spot, yet their website has been updated to show the concept store opening in Grasslands in Summer 2017 and no mention of their Cornwall store... |

Speaking of which, is it known what businesses will be leasing inside that new Grasslands building? |

Renovating these theatres & adding recliners is a step in the right direction. If we can't get a brand new theatre, this is a good compromise. Too bad a VIP theatre doesn't make sense there, but perhaps we'll see an AVX and/or DBOX tossed in for good measure ;) EDIT: movies at Southland are actually a bit cheaper ($10 vs $12.50), didn't realize that. |

El Tropezon
There's hope yet for a Mexican restaurant opening in the Queen City.
Flores and his wife, who he credits with pushing him to make the first step in realizing his long-term goal of opening a restaurant in Regina, began serving out of his food truck a month ago. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskat...rant-1.3978614 |

In regards to The Source, I agree it seems their new space is more than temporary but it's also a much larger store. Larger store = higher rent/lease payment. I'm guessing Cornwall offered for them to move there for the same price as their old store and then they will move back to a similar space when Papyrus vacated and renos are completed. |

Does anyone know if Southland Mall, Cornwall Centre or Northgate mall were built to allow for another floor?
Also does anyone have any updated pictures of the Golden Mile renovation progress, the south Albert Street coop/A&W redevelopment, as well as what is going on across the street from the Golden Mile on the former gas station land? |

Everyone wants to get in on the party! And just wait until other brands get back in on the action! |

Interesting. I wonder which HMVs will make the switch.
There was a Sunrise Records in Polo Park here in Winnipeg for the 2015 Christmas season. It didn't feel very permanent, and it only lasted about 3-6 months if I recall correctly, so it must have been a pop up shop or something. They had a lot of neat stuff. Lots of vinyl, and a bigger selection of shirts/glasses/pins etc than you find at HMV. |

I'd like the Southland one to stay open, but that's because my son and I sometimes stop to pick up a new movie for the collection every now and then. The Southland is a great mall, although there have been a few too many vacant spots for too long. The reno to the Bothwell library is great.

I don't think it really matters. I can't imagine this experiment will work at all.

Post Media did a takeover of struggling properties and in doing so, took the baggage along with. Sunrise is just taking soon to be freed up retail space currently leased to HMV; there is no carry-over from HMV whatsoever, though I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to hire some of the staff. From the news releases, I view Sunrise's model as somewhat akin to Comic Readers on 11th, but instead of comics, they'll stock movies/CDs/vinyl. The rest of the store will have the same pop-culture items, and from the sounds of it, a lot more than HMV. I think they have a chance, but yes, the too big, too fast could be problematic. |

Where abouts was it announced that Saje Wellness would be moving in beside Sephora? I missed that announcement. |

Sunrise is taking over the Southland HMV location. No news about Cornwall. |

My concern about the Southland theatre reno has to do with the shallow slope inside each theatre (relative to Galaxy or Imax). As it was, it was hard to see above the people in front of you unless they were quite short. If you recline and they don't...well, you won't be able to see at all.
I know they are doing this to revitalize the theatre. But it has small screens and a shallow slope for seating, so I don't think this will attract me. |

I've tend to avoid Sland because the seats are uncomfortable, and the viewing angle isn't ideal. They've clearly solved one of my concerns, but in doing so, they may have exacerbated the other... we'll see, I've got some Scene points I don't mind burning on Logan. |
Regina Costco - New Location Unveiled
If this has already been posted elsewhere, please remove or merge. I had thought it was already publicly announced, but based on the way the post has gone viral over the past 72 hours, it is my assumption that this is to be treated as breaking news.
The new (relocated) Costco has been formally unveiled to be going at the new Aurora Retail Complex, in the SE corner of the Victoria Avenue and Tower Road (New name Anaquod Road) intersection. Any word on what will happen with the existing store?

^An appearance in the Ugly Canada thread?

I think all Costcos are honourary members of that thread. |
Worst kept secret?
I expect it to open Q4 2017 so that the bypass is open first. |

Yes. It's an easy build and they intend to start late Q2.
Everything I've heard is that they want to be open for Christmas. |

I guess you are right. They got Saskatoon's open on Nov.10 with a similar time line. Pretty amazing. I guess stocking shelves is a lot quicker. |
Chad Novak, heh.
Anyways, this has been the worst kept secret. Wonder how far away Regina is from getting a second Costco now that Saskatoon has gotten its second. |
It's literally a big box. I assume with a Costco there are fewer fixtures to assemble than a typical supermarket/discount store.
