New project for Denver

Nice looking tower. It will look great on the Denver skyline.

Calgary wants its 8th Avenue Place tower back

Indeed. Sadly, this one is shorter. But I'll still take it, even if it is practically a clone.

I thought we had another thread on this from the original proposal, no? If not, great to see this one start.

Here is the official website for the project. It has a pretty picture as well as an e-mail contact for interested parties. This wasn't on here yesterday so it must have just gone live today.

These next four years will be an amazing time for U.S. skyscraper contruction. You got all of Miami, NYC and its many supertalls, Seattle, Los Angeles, Philly's 1st supertall, the several Boston skyscrapers going up, San Francisco boom, Houston, Dallas, Austin, Honolulu... I'm probably missing others but our cities are experiencing dramatic changes every since the 2008 crash. Good signs of a recovery. ;)

Is this the old Tabor center site? It does kind of look like EAP in Calgary!

Gorgeous! This will add some lovely ultramodern spice to the Denver skyline.

It does look like EAP here in Calgary, but with enough differences to make it unique. It also looks like the slope of the crown alternates between sides of the building.

TallBob. No, this is a different project. Two Tabor is cursed, and will likely never be built.

In all serious-ness, they keep re-designing and re-sizing and have yet to pull the trigger. It went from 500 feet and 38 floors, to 630 feet and a crown and 42 floors, to no crown, to a now current 420-footer and 31 floors.

You'd think with the hardest part of the building done (foundation), they'd be more willing to take a risk and just start the dang thing. Given the current design's shrinking though, makes we wish they'd shoot for the 42-story version with the crown.

Hines is a bigger company than Callahan Capital Partners (Tabor Center owner) and they already have a $284 million equity placement for the project.

Very nice. Question: I am reading this tower is to be 590 ft tall from the link though the title of this thread indicates 625 ft. Where is the extra 35 ft?

Agreed, but its still a needed mix-up in the Denver skyline. A keeper no less.

It's been reported that the project will be either 40-stories or 38 stories which is what accounts for the differing heights. Hopefully this will be cleared up in the near future.

Denver and Calgary are extremely similar in so many ways, they could be considered the twin cities of North America. Well, at least leading into the mid-2000s before Calgary blew Denver away after building the Bow, 8th Avenue Place and a slew of other new towers. Given that Denver is... well, Denver... it's no surprise that this architectural clone is shorter than 8th Ave. Place in Calgary. I wouldn't expect anything less than Denver falling short.

Glad to see the move away from the earth-tone palette, but this building could really use some spicing up... some pizzazz! Some character showing through what is a relatively innocuous design. The concept of two opposite pillars of glass juxtaposed together is cool, but overall the building looks just so... bland. A little effort on the crown, perhaps a true "spire" that would put 4 Seasons in its place (and surpass it in height), and some time spent making the monotone and uninspired glass facade more interesting could really make this a knock-out building.

I still prefer 1100 15th Street (the Hines Proposal) from 10 years ago. THAT building would have been something to salivate over, but I'm extremely happy to see the site being developed. Eventually, Denver will build a tower worthy of the front cover of architectural magazines. You can only fail so many times before there's a fluke and you get it "right". :cheers:

Per the press release, the tower will be built spec starting in May.

Also, it is now officially 40 stories and 590 feet. Hopefully the thread title can be modified to reflect that info.
