You can read Maran-Wurzell Glass & Mirror, the name of a construction company founded in 1969 and now based in Pomona.

Great post on the Tommy Dorsey-Jon Hall fight FredH. -Quite surprised to learn Tommy Dorsey was a violent drunk.

Fantastic photo. This model of Packard Coupe was often referred to as "A Doctors Car" though that is not how it was marketed. 1923 Price would have been around $2,800-$3,000. Today one in showroom condition will bring some $60,000 to $70,000.

Could this be the same building? It's the right size and has the right number of windows on the upper floor.

The current building seems to have been there since at least 1952, the earliest view of that area on Historic Aerials.

I checked the 1956 and 1960 City Directories, and they list the A. J. Bayer Company at 2300 East Slauson. Would that be the same A. J. Bayer Company who supplied "ornamental iron, bronze and hollow metal doors" to the Fine Arts Building?

I guess they confused with his brother Jimmie Dorsey (who played clarinet and saxophone). Tommy was afraid of drinking and often threatened his brother in order to make him stop drinking.
Another reason : Tommy Dorsey mastered his trombone (sound and phrasing) until his death better than no other trombonist in the world (jazz or classical). You can't expect that from a drunken musician : the trombone is very hard to master in a physical way and you need to be in a very good shape to play it that well. One thing seems to be true : Tommy Dorsey was known to be aggressive.

Yes, same building. The wooden cornices and parapets were long ago infested with termites and rotted away.

The plaster gingerbread decorations were probably damaged by the numerous Los Angeles earthquakes. They too, fell to the sidewalk, one way or another. She was an attractive building in her day.

To me it resembles an old transit building. (maybe we've seen it before on NLA, I'm not sure)

...and ER, if you look at the overhead map (your building outlined in yellow) you will notice
that Santa Fe Ave. runs next to the building, plus there are other tracks just across Slauson.

You may be right about it being an old transit building.

The mother of all celebrity brawls occurred on the balcony of bandleader Tommy Dorsey’s apartment at 1220 Sunset Plaza Drive* off the Strip in the wee hours of Aug. 5, 1944. The primary combatants in what came to be known as “the Battle of the Balcony” were Dorsey and Jon Hall.

Here is Jon Hall with Dorothy Lamour:

Oddly enough, a couple weeks ago I was looking for someone in the 1940 census, and when I found him, I discovered that on the same census page was Jon Hall, living at 12805 Sunset Blvd in Brentwood, with his wife Frances Langford, her mother and brother, and a butler and a cook:

Ancestry.com

Every place I looked on the Internet says Hall was born in Fresno, California, but here it says he was born in the Philippines. And I guess the census-taker wasn't a fan; it looks like he started to spell Hall's name John then wrote over it.

Disappearing pet cats and dogs in urban areas are often the handy work of Coyotes. A pack of them have no qualms about taking down a cow. About the only thing they won't tackle is a Donkey because Donkeys can kill a Coyote with one good kick, which is why we have a couple of Donkeys in every pasture where we are grazing cattle.

Yeah, urban coyotes are more than happy to make a meal off of the family pet. Smart people no longer have pet doors, either, because the animals aren't afraid to come inside the house if they smell a meal.

I think the humane thing to do is tranquilize it and move it back up into the mountains. It's going to want to mate sooner or later and will then start trying to roam outside of the park. Not only will that present a challenge to neighborhoods around the park, but it will mean the poor animal will have to risk crossing at least one freeway. It's such a magnificent cat; I wish it were in a safer environment.
