That is very, cool. Great find, ER. That angle appears to be from the NE, and you can see that even 50 years ago there was more of a gritty, industrial feel to that area of DT.
That's hell-a-cool to see. |
Great pic ethereal.

I like those real aerial shots latennisguy, people outside of Texas dont realize how green that area is. How's summer treating you down there?

BTW, latennisguy, I hope you're enjoying your time in Houston so far. You've found some pretty nice photos of the city as well. |
thanks guys. yeah...summer hasn't been that bad (mostly since I stay indoors in summer school.) The scattered thunderstorms are crazy! u don't experience these in L.A.
The Rice area is also one of my favorite places. I always play tennis at Rice and live really close by. I can see my condo in that picture  |
This thread is like heaven on a stick... I'm GLAD I found it.
Yeah, I honestly understand why people hate Houston. It just doesn't make sense to build such outlandish things here... tall buildings in every direction, right next to houses and neighborhoods. Sticky, hot weather for over half the year, a city run more by mind than muscle. But it's those very reasons for hating the city that make me enjoy it even more. Especially living here right now, when the city is aggressively reforming itself into a dense urban area. Everyday I find a new set of condos, new stores being built, and new plans to obliterate another surface parking lot. It's really one of the wildest places in the US. |
I think of Houston from the scenes at the beginning and end of
the movie 'Local Hero'. Especially at the end I guess, when he looks out over the skyscrapers....and feels alone in this big city. It's a 1980's sense of urban melancholia. It's one of my favorite movies. |
