That style looks really out of place there. Would look better in Arlington Heights, or other older areas. Around the mall, it sticks out poorly.

Looks like a Pokemon style pre-evolution of Park Tower.

The best part of this is that it ties up Lagrange’s office, at least enough that it’s one less project he can take on in Chicago proper.

No, it’s a good thing. Trap him in the burbs designing this crap for people out here, while better designers can focus on the city

Honestly, I wish this design could swap places with the one just proposed for Dearborn and Oak. At least it doesn't have the HORRENDOUS mansard roof with the unexplainable four toothpicks sticking up from it, and it feels slightly more "cohesive" (if you can ever call a Lagrange design cohesive) than the Dearborn/Oak design.

That being said, they're both still atrocious.

If anyone is wondering what the top of the building looks like, here's a few images from Lagrange's website.

I'm really in support of growth in the big outer suburbs to be honest, not sprawling growth but downtown development in Aurora, Joliet, Elgin, Waukegan as well as in near suburbs like Oak Park, Evanston, and Blue Island. I'm also for growth in other fringe suburbs that have a lot of space between neighborhood developments, like Orland Park, Mokena, Plainfield, etc just to fill them out. it would be best if they also found a way to connect the neighborhoods through bike and pedestrian paths that could connect to a more urban center, since often times sidewalks aren't present along major roads. or maybe just design new suburbs as a connected whole rather than separate neighborhood exclaves. all of this would make Chicagoland feel even more like a megalopolis with multiple smaller urban focuses which all contribute to the main city.

it looks like anyone still holding out a vain hope that we might see evanston one day build a new tallest building for its skyline can finally let go of that little dream. evanston has decided that is does not want to be a tall building city, and developers are now walking away.

Developers drop plans for Northlight tower
By Bill Smith on March 1, 2018 - 7:51pm

Northlight Theatre, Farpoint Development and McLaurin Development today announced they are withdrawing plans for a proposed 37-story development in the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue in Evanston.

In a joint statement, the parties said that they now feel that to move forward, "given that the site has become a source of contention, would serve to perpetuate a divisive issue for city leaders and residents in a time of continuing debate about the vision and future of downtown Evanston."

That's a bummer. Looks like Oak Park will be taking more of a leading role in the burbs when it comes to height with new construction...

after the recent losses of the two big evanston tower proposals, here's a bit of positive news for one of evanston's smaller highrise developments.

1727 Oak to have 17 on-site affordable units
By Bill Smith on March 7, 2018 - 6:22pm

Plans for the 1727 Oak Ave. development were approved by Evanston's Design and Project Review Committee this afternoon and are scheduled for a Plan Commission hearing next Wednesday.

John Carlson of the Trammell Crow Company said the 17-story, 169-unit "active adult" project is now planned to have 17 affordable units on site with rental rates at 50, 60 and 80 percent of area median income. That's a revision from an earlier proposal that would have had some of the units at 100 percent of AMI.

Also, across the tracks from this, the lot at the SE corner of Cottage Hill and Park Avenues has been cleared. Looks like it may have been sold and is zoned for 6 stories. Bring on some more TOD!
