I think this is the building down the street on the left with the white writing on the dark gable. I went back to November 2014 to get this interesting view with the "Art Scene Do Not Cross" signage. I was going to say that the outlined figure on the wall survives, but I think he's still dead ;).

Curious structure.
 

Curious structure indeed. But pretty typical for an early distribution substation. Those buckets are clay pipes and they served as exits or entrances for the high voltage wires. If you look closely you'll see the three phase wires entering the building. The are supported on a wooden timber and are tied onto insulators.
Those stars are cast iron washers and did serve to tie a steel inner structure to the brick building.

I found A G Booth, taxidermist, at 4573 Huntington Drive North in the 1942 CD. I've marked where I think the vintage photo was taken on the 1948 aerial view below. For comparison, the 2012 view is on the right.

Hydro-therapy invented by the Jacuzzi brothers, one of whose children contracted rheumatic fever (not polio, as we were told) during WWII. Prior to this they did aircraft propellors and then irrigation pumps.

Their factory was in North Berkeley CA, right next to my home town of Albany.

No, not the same design, but similarities made me think of this Richfield Station at an unidentified Alhambra location in 1956. Anyone familiar with the nearby "Melody Cafe?" (Not to be confused with other Melodies e.g., 309 S Flower or by the airport.)

We are trying to save this amazing Mid-Century building–architect's Kurt W Meyer's first major commission.
I’m one of the founders of Friends of Lytton Savings, we wrote the Historic Cultural Application (HCM) for the Lytton/Chase building.

The HCM application was unanimously adapted by the Cultural Heritage Commission (CHC) on September 15th BUT it be passed by the LA City Council to save the building.

CHC Commissioner Jeremy Irvine said “I find it shocking and sad that a commercial building like this, which was so groundbreaking would be threatened. So I’m in MAJOR favor of it (the HCM).”

The building is obviously worthy of saving, but it is going to take public support to give the political will that the City Council needs to overcome the developers $$$.

Sunny Gables estate La Cañada Flintridge
 

I've been watching a webseries that some friends have worked on, and the house they used seems very familiar to me. Does anyone know much about the Sunny Gables estate in La Cañada Flintridge? I googled and googled and came up donut. Maybe I'm just looking at classic features of the front and thinking I've seen them in tv or film.

It's at 582 Meadow Grove St, and was built in 1929 according to this Air BNB listing.

There are a lot of interior photos on that BNB listing, and they have mostly kept it original aside from upgraded appliances. The listing also states the house has a septic system.

This is the intersection of the Harbor and Santa Monica Freeways. The white building in front of the helicopter is 1417 Georgia Street which I posted about a few weeks ago in post #36690. The scene is now filled by the Convention Center.

Can't find it now...but in one of those small apartment buildings lived one of the killers of Mabel Monohan...or Susan Hayward when she was first in Los Angeles??...can't remember the details.

I found references to the car wash in a couple of architecture books, but sadly the relevant pages weren't available online. The postcard below gives the address (and a free car wash). I wasn't able to spot the car wash on vintage aerial photos - there's a Chevron gas station on the site today
