I really don’t think a single retailer will take over. It will definitely be multiple tenants.

The speculation about Shoppers actually lines up with rumours I've heard.

I know Nordstorm or Saks aren't in the cards. But Simons seems like a possibility, perhaps for one floor.

That way Shoppers could expand their grocery selection, which for interim would be a good thing for downtown. Simons would be brilliant.

Either way, I feel strongly that once H&M opens (and maybe the talk has already started) other national and international chains that have overlooked Regina will start to figure out if they want to expand here too. I am sure there is pressure to get that huge chunk of space left by Sears dealt with.

And the orange outer tile better be on the chopping block for some glass, GLAss, GLASS!!! :)

A Cineplex VIP theatre would be amazing.

Also wondering if Casino Regina has any future ambitions for renovation, expansion and or a hotel.

****Would the Cornwall Centre ever consider moving the entire food court into a section of Sears and then put stores in the former? I have always found the food court an odd design.

If they were able to fill the two floors left by Sears it would be so cool if they built a third floor overtop of the old Sears and put a food court there!

I also agree that the food court currently is an odd design. It just doesn't feel like thats where it should be, and it is so cramped.

shoppers has been extending their Beauty Boutique in some stores, in malls they will usually have their own entrance separate from the shoppers main entrance with inside connections. For the metrotown store they took over space from next door to expand and make the beauty boutique. You can shop in there without having to go inside the shoppers.

they seem to be competing with Sephora, the spaces are quite large.

Escalators up to the 3rd level food court would be amazing. Something with lots of glass in the ceiling to look at the sky while you eat. That also would allow for the washrooms to be expanded. The men’s in brutal.

You’re giving me wistful memories of the Galleria. (Sigh)

This is what Yorkdale Mall in Toronto did to their new third floor eatery (there is a pit stop at a coffee shop)....

Funny enough, the food court layout pretty much looks like the second floor Sears (with a new Hamilton Street entrance haha)

It would be nice to see the Sears location split into smaller CRUs. But the cost would be huge and I don't know how good the market is for mid-size retailers of which Cornwall would probably like to get to take a good portion of the space.

What on earth do you do with the basement as well?

A new sign. Still some work to do on it.

Looks good against the old stone.

Uh, splitting it up is literally the only option. There is no other similarly-sized tenant waiting to jump into that space.

^If we look at past malls in Canada and even Regina there is also the possibility of leasing space to government or specialty health. Not what I'd like to see, but certainly one result that could happen.

They already lease the 3rd floor of the Bay to government. I'm not sure putting more offices in what should be prime retail space is a good idea and I hope it doesn't come to that.

True, but in the era of provincial belt-tightening, I can't think of any gov't entity looking to spend money on a move. Especially not to downtown (with associated higher rents). Cornwall would really, really have to make it worth their while to consolidate ministries that already have downtown offices. Strikes me as exceptionally unlikely (but, for the record, I also believed a Superstore in Golden Mile was exceptionally unlikely... yet, here we are).

Rumour is Kim&Ashlees/Sweet Ambrosia has closed without notice, leaving people with baking orders and cake orders in the lurch.

Surprised they had any business to do considering all the bad press and reviews they get.

While I've enjoyed some of their cupcake pops in the past, I've only heard bad things about their cake making for weddings and events. I've also heard they treat their staff pretty poorly. This is unfortunate for any staff laid off and for clients who now possibly have to find alternatives at short notice, but not surprising.

Found this awesome post as some of you (me too) might have forgotten the before regarding the inside previous Smitty's facade. Can't wait to see the comparison to the H&M version.

I've heard nothing but bad things about them. I'm amazed they lasted as long as they did. I tried two things from them at Riders games (ice cream sandwich & a cupcake or something similar) & they were both terrible... like, if I gave my daughter a bunch of ingredients & asked he to make me something, it would've been better.

Their Better Business Bureau rating is a B+... so, seems apparent that there were some issues, but perhaps not as bad as some might have us believe (or, they've improved).

I feel bad for the employees, & folks who have outstanding orders with them, of course.

StealthGirl Mar 12, 2018 8:06 PM

Where is the new Laura Secord in Cornwall? I haven't been downtown in a while.
