Figuring Out Sketchup
Hello all. I am a total newbie here so if I'm breaking some etiquette rule please let me know.
Anyway, I've just started out with Sketchup and decided to share my progress in case anyone wants to give me tips, just look at my ideas, provide constructive criticism, etc. (or inform me that my building is physically impossible :haha:). Anyway, here's the first thing design I've sketched up. What do you folks think?:) http://www.alternatehistory.com/disc...1&d=1338841547 |
Sorry dude, I can't see your uploaded picture. Try using photobucket.com and link the picture here using [img] code. Let me know if you need more guidance

Now I can see it. :)
It looks like you have a good start on SketchUp. I would suggest you try to frame some of the windows instead of just using the translucent material. It helps it look more realistic. But all-in-all, good start! |

It does feel good to say that you're "done" with something. But also, in the future, don't forget to look back at some of your work and think about refining it. I look forward to more of your work and I'm glad there's someone else on the forum

Used a lot more copy and paste on this one. It's useful, but I'm definitely going to have to put a lot more work into the next one. Maybe I should try sketching out rough designs first.

Decided to avoid translucence this time. Not sure if the podium looks old enough, but I was worried if my computer could handle too much detail.

Thats not to bad. Is that based of a real building? I see the map underneath it.
BTW, dont be afraid of translucence, just be prepared to do some interior details like the core and columns. |

That looks very cool. You could almost mistake it for a drawing of a real building actually.
I think I should get into this 'Sketchup'. :haha: |
To prove that I am still doing things. However I'm really not happy with the flat building in the back. Will probably redo it before all is done.

Are you doing these to add to the 3d buildings layer in Google Earth?

I suppose I could though. Probably not off by too much. |
They're not that picky about height; I've never had a building rejected for being improperly scaled, and I'm guessing most of the time. If you do decide to submit buildings though, I would be worried about your use of the built in sketchup textures. Google prefers using actual photos for the textures, it results in simpler models.
With that said, you models look pretty good  |

Nice to see an update! Are these your own designs or are you modeling real-life buildings?

All the textured ones are my own schemings.

Here's the end product.
