A gaggle of geese A flock of birds An army of ants A swarm of bees A flight of butterflies A pod of whales A school of fish A herd of elephants A pride of lions A parliament of owls A black hole of Noirishers? I'm sure with the collective intelligence and creativity of this august group we can come up with a good collective noun. How about it? |
:previous: "A parliament of owls." ...I've never heard that one!...That's really cool/

Tunnel Construction
Here is another snapshot from the "Claire & Clio" photograph group. [1918 - 1920]
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/6fmpUV.jpg Ebay hmmm.....that might be Clio sitting on a rock to the left of the excavating thingy (steam shovel?). Unless I am seeing things...there appears to be a man straddling the hood of his car on the far right of the photograph. > > > Scott Charles, is it possible to get rid of that glare?...(or if anyone else wants to give it a try that's good too) I hope Beaudry bids for the photographs. ;) . |

I also purchased that $29 1949 Broadway tunnel negative. I have a lot to say on the subject of reproducing eBay images here, on cleaning them up, how sellers and collectors might feel...but that will have to wait for another time. I need to run and get my hair cut and pack—Avalon Ball weekend begins tomorrow! |

Looks like the Stanley on top of the Second Street tunnel. My full 2015 post can be found here. Quote:

I just noticed that there's a second snapshot of the house being moved! https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/3EnHiK.jpg Ebay I think this is the same house, minus the bric a brac. HERE is the photograph I posted yesterday of the house jacked up. DETAIL OF PIC ABOVE. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/catTTG.jpg ;) . |

I don't think it is the same house in both pics E.R., there is a couple year gap in the photo dates. https://i.postimg.cc/3xNbxxC6/Capture3.png https://i.postimg.cc/MpL3MJ9G/Capture4.png By the way, is it my imagination or did these girls really age between 1918 and 1919? https://i.postimg.cc/JhB6jYF5/Capture5.png These two girls showed up in more places than Kilroy did during WW2 https://i.postimg.cc/1RGySJJT/1qxyefsrpm901.jpg reddit.com/r/Warthunder/comments/7pw89i/job_is_done_kilroy_was_here_decal_get/ |

It's nice to put names to familiar though blurry faces. :) I think this is Claire and Clio - the Heller sisters. Here in their early twenties living with mum and dad, Charles and Cecelia, at 741 W. 11th Street in 1930. They were living there when the pictures were taken. https://i.imgur.com/pggcuAu.jpg rescarta.lapl.org Dad Charles maybe had a thing about moving buildings. He had one moved himself in 1923. https://i.imgur.com/kuN9gPO.jpg http://ladbsdoc.lacity.org |
Wow! That's some mighty impressive sleuthing, Noir Noir.
I'm not sure how you did it, though. How'd you figure out their last name was Heller? (you don't have to answer my question if it's a trade secret) :) I am sure -at this point- some of you are experiencing Claire & Clio fatigue. . . ...but there have been additional sightings. #1 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/8rDNsb.jpg Ebay Do you see her? Let's take a closer look. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...921/fM6gHo.jpg If you look closely, the word Clio & an arrow appear in the rocky terrain. Now it's getting downright spooky. :runaway: In this 2nd pic, her mom (or her father) had Clio back up even farther! (not taken on the same day / the excavation has progressed) #2 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/I7HmbN.jpg She's barely perceptible. Ha Ha REVERSE https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/mUO77C.jpg "Clio in the distance" I don't know about you, but I don't believe I'd send my little girl down into a giant excavation pit. When I first saw the photographs I wondered if her father worked for the excavation company. (Noir Noir's research says Clio's father was a dentist) Claire is missing in action. . |

These "Claire and Clio" photos are very interesting, e_r. Thanks for finding them! Since this photo looks west from Figueroa and Orange (now Wilshire) on January 23, 1920, I wonder if the house being moved is the old Samuel Foy home, on its way from 651 S. Figueroa to 625 Witmer? The permit to move the Foy house (in two sections) is dated eight days before the photo was taken. Quote:
