Does anyone know Knott's Berry Farm well enough to label the buildings?

I can't even pick out the large 'Chicken Dinner' place.

Taken from a Globe Swift, N78176, built in 1946 and still flying as of 2018. Owned then by one Walter Fawcett of Wolfeboro NH.

Made several flying models of Swifts; it was and is a good prototype for a flying scale model.

Cheers,

Earl

Bottom row, far left, the back of something that fronts onto...somewhere. After I get it and look at it with a loupe I'll find some clue I'm sure.

Right, well, that's what I said, so here I am back again.

The image in question:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...251854fd_b.jpg

A-ha, what's this:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...58f1f2e3_b.jpg

Let's consult the world's greatest map:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4859f1cf_o.png

Lookit that, it's 217 South Bunker Hill Avenue.

Ergo:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3cb95fec_o.png

The image looks across the very back stucco corner of the Dome to the rear end of 212 South Bunker Hill Avenue. Which, by the way, looked like this:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...f2cf5716_o.png

In our image, 215 South Grand and 216 South Bunker Hill are gone, which both had demo permits issued in February 1963, so I amend my original speculation about these shots being taken soon after the Hill Crest demo of late 1961...

I was searching Craigslist this morning and came across this.

The seller also as a picture of the church. I hope someone keeps it.

It appears to be lines of music with various words beneath.
I wonder if the two lines of music was traveling neon.

Intriguing it is and I've been trying to decipher any part of it since yesterday, but having no luck.

e_r, as usual I may be hallucinating; but I believe I see, on the top line, "Solly's" (after the treble clef). No idea of what's on the bass clef line, except I think it's . . . something . . . superimposed on musical notes. The next line down seems to be "AND HIS", no idea what the final word is ("orchestra" or the like would make sense; an earlier ad (10/9/1950, LA Times), for the other location, advertised "Toni Ferrell and his Guitar"). And the lowest line seems to begin "PLAY"; no idea about the last two words; again, in the earlier ad for the other location, Ferrell and his guitar "play Chopin and Liszt Selections."

The most recent building at the 38 N. La Cienega address was Benihana's. It was torn down about 4 years ago and is still vacant.

The Stinking Rose is now at 55 N. La Cienega with a large parking area encompassing 53 N. La CIenega, I'm guessing.

The blog says that Fairchild's restaurant opened in 1953 in the Cherio Room space, and after the owner brought in scabs after a 1963 strike, was destroyed by fire.

I sure looked at a lot of Richfield stations the other day. Here's one I liked for no obvious reason. Even with the cataloging info, it would probably be impossible to place:
https://i.postimg.cc/t41hthhV/SFVH-1177-full.jpg

But the Photographer is given as Quality Photo Shop, and the library had two others from the same source:

CSUN
https://i.postimg.cc/CMQ5C9Jm/SFVH-1179-full.jpg

The bottom photo is identified as Glendale Avenue, the other two just Glendale, but the middle photo has a Piggly Wiggly, which is exotic (for me anyway. I know it mostly from Driving Miss Daisy). It might be possible to deduce the locations of these three photos as a group.
I know there are commenting systems where people can make notes on various web pages, without the website owners needing to do anything. Wouldn't it be great if the online archives would semi-officially endorse one of these commenting systems?

The north/south road is old State Route 39 (now Grand Anenue) ...Are the dots (in the orchards) Mr. Knott's berry plants? They look more like trees to me.

I remember the Sky Room and the smorgasbord dinners on Sunday evenings. I saw my first The Lockheed Constellation from the Sky Room, too. It was a classy restaurant.

We definitely haven't seen this snapshot.

It shows two girls on a motorbike in front of a rather impressive Ionic columnedbuilding which I surmise is a high school.

As you can see the date is Jan. 1915. The seller says the motorbike is a Harley Davidson.

There's a boy/man(?) watching from the portico.

We're looking west on Hollywood Blvd. at Western Avenue. In the distance on the right is the old St. Francis Hotel - ...but I find the smaller places just as interesting. . .

. . .like the noirish sounding 'The Rail' bar and the nearby Dante's Cafe. (shown below)

The blade sign to the left of 'The Rail' appears to say 'Gung Ho'.
