Random SF Pics
On the left, the San Francisco Penninsula's Caltrain railroad (HSR will run on this ROW). Splitting off to the right with the locomotive is San Francisco's freight line to the port. That's the Bay Bridge in the distance, with the serpentine 280 Freeway winding up and over the industrial zone.

I wonder if we'll ever see taller buildings go up immediately around GG park, like Central Park....The park and ocean views would be spectacular.

Cool finds, fflint. Something about the angles and the way that branch line descends make that railroad shot look unreal.

Maybe I fixed it (maybe not--did my best) but here's the (smaller) version from Curbed (the blue half on the left):

I know only part of your building is visible, but can you see yourself working away in one of those lit windows? ;)
|
Haha, not on that side...you have a good memory!
|
I think you posted it in one of those show-us-your-building threads. I always knew it as the Crown Zellerbach Building, but that's too long. Now it's simply "fflint's building" to me, so you can never change jobs! :haha:
|
|
^Whoa, huge shot! A good thing though as the detail allows you to check out individual buildings and locations.

That was one of the old Transbay Terminal bus ramps. That ramp will soon be demolished as part of the terminal's replacement.

:previous: That last photo makes me understand for the first time how Lone Mountain got its name. It never has seemed to me much of a mountain (it's pretty much the site of the University of San Francisco, a private Jesuit college, now) nor particularly "alone". But you can see what the folks who named it were seeing in the photo.

I love San Franciscos history so here are some more pictures and an amazing video from 1905 and then the 40s.

Amazing shots, guys. Thanks for finding and posting them!
FYI: that statue photo was taken down at Stanford. While more rare, there are photos from all over the area showing the effects of that quake. I recall one of a fence up my way that shifted several feet that day. Of course the SF pix are most dramatic, but the damage was visible for miles around. |
