Don't forget that you can edit a post as often as you like, so there's no need to add extra posts. Why not find something else interesting to post about and edit it into your deleted post :).

The November 13, 1952, Los Angeles Times notes that "The new Olympic gym opened its doors last week at 318 1/2 S Main St."
The 1956 LA Street Address Directory lists the Olympic Gym at that address, but there are a couple Times references in 1959 to
the Main Street Gym, and by 1960 the name had officially changed.


The poster on the right is from 1969, so let's assume the photo below is from that year as well. On the awning you can still see
the P and the C from the old Olympic Gym days:

On February 15, 1978, the Times reported that Steindler's widow had received his wallet in the mail the previous December.
However, the case is still unsolved.


Steindler's daughter Carol ran the gym until the Adolphus Theatre building was torn down in late 1984. She then operated
another "Main Street Gym" behind the Olympic Auditorium for a short time until that gym was also demolished.

I had completely forgotten about the 2nd location in the Adolphus Theatre building.


Opened as the Panorama* Theater, it became the Adolphus Theater from November 27, 1911 when it was taken over by Adolph Ramash after alterations had been made to the plans of architectural firm Mayberry & Parker. Seating was provided for 1,450, all on a single level together with 12 seats in each of the single boxes located at the side of the proscenium. The stage was 50ft deep. It was the largest of the theatres on Main Street in the downtown area of Los Angeles. In 1913 a 700-seat balcony was added, with plans provided by architect Otto Janssen and it reopened as the Hippodrome Theatre on August 31, 1913.

After closing, the auditorium was demolished in September & October 1952 and the space used for parking. The front of the building remained for many years, housing a gymnasium. It, too, has been demolished.

Two Different Prefixes
 

The place of business may have been in a deviding line for toll calls. If you lived in one area a BR may be a toll call and vice versa even though you were very close by.

I've been working in Toluca Lake recently, and noticed this building. It kinda reminds my of the old Ralph's supermarkets, with the rotunda and spanish tile roof, not to mention the rooftop sign.

The building is located at 10155 Riverside Drive, Toluca Lake.

Does anyone have the original picture of this Ralph's location (or not)?

It was made by Kevin Kerber as part of a restoration project in which he is re-creating (from scratch!) public places and film sets and other environments around Hollywood and Los Angeles as part, I believe, of a virtual reality project he's working on.
