Those malekurb pics don't work here, I reckon!

Oh crap! I'll reupload with my flick account.
|
I know the city said it was going to be 16 storey, but it's obviously much more.

Methodology: I counted the number of windows in vertical row. |
So they'll be demolishing that old hotel de la Montagne? It's actually very tall, I'm surprised it was worth it, but I'm glad this will be taking its place it's quite an improvement.
|
I don't think the Hotel de la Montagne will be demolished. This building looks like a very solid structure and the rendering seems to suggest the integration of this building in the project.

i'm glad that i didn't die before this day. please, oh please, let this and the peterson building come together.

I should ecstatic about this project, because an ugly hotel is coming down and valuable downtown land is getting development.
But as ugly as Hotel de la montagne was, it was a real pleasure inside. The lobby was warm and ornate, and hosted a cool little lounge with cheap happy hour drinks. Every Christmas I partook in the hotel's Christmas discount (price of a room the last 2 digits of your date of birth). But what I'll miss even more is the roof top bar. That was fantastic, and offered great views. And then, Holt Refrew is going inside Ogilvy's....so essentiall we're losing one luxury store, n the golden square mile to boot. What is going to happen to the art deco building on Sherbrooke now...more condos for millionaires? |

Well that's a damn shame. Though it was butt-ugly on the outside, the actual hotel was top notch, the rooms very comfy and the Terrasse Magnetic is one of the city's best summer hang outs.
Damn. On a personal note: the terrace was the first time I attended a SSP "smoked meet" and met the old gang. That was 7 years ago now. |
^One wonders if it would be possible to do a massive renovation on the exterior and keep the place open. The promoters want to build a new hotel. But the existing hotel has an existing client base, employees, etc. The building only dates from 1975. Not even 40 years old.
The view from the top looks to be spectacular (probably because you can't see the Hotel itself). I've never been there (the exterior always turned me off), but I might have to pop in, and have a drink before it's no more. |

Theres even a pool there. It really is a great place, not expensive either. Lots of girls there. |
Looking over the city's report on this project. It gives the floorplan for each floor. 16 above ground floors and 67.19 m to the roof (height limit here is 68m).
There is going to be 7 levels of underground parking (400 spots), 1 underground level for delivery vehicles, a six floor mall on De la Montagne, 5 floor hotel (120 rooms), 5 levels of condos (100 units), and a bar on the top floor, with an outdoor pool/terrasse (which is zoned for the hotel, so it will probably be accessible to the public). Plan of the building from De Maisonneuve: http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/4784/capture7pi.png The cladding will be partially in glass and "metals" (and other accented materials), and partially in stone. I never noticed the slight changes that will be made to the Ogilvy's building at street level.
