Do we think there will be continued redevelopment at the stretch of Hamilton Street just south of Sask drive and the casino? It's amazing to see what has happened to the stretch south of that (Ag place, etc.) and it would be good to get some development happening just north of it. I wish Royal Bank and the Service Canada buildings would open up some ground floor retail space (though I think there is a little bit available from the vacated Scotiabank in the Alvin Hamilton building?)

Winners/HomeSense in Grasslands will open on August 22 according to the sign in the window.

Feds are consolidating entities from around the city into Alvin Hamilton. Several federal departments have moved in over the last couple years, and there are plans for more to move in over the coming months & years (based largely on existing lease expirations).

Logic being: why pay rent in a private building, when there's space available in a government-owned building?

Also don't forget the continuing trend of jamming more employees in a small area and calling it "collaboration".

Sears will start liquidation sales this Friday. I expect they won't last until October; time frame for liquidation is three months.

That's a big chunk of real estate to have empty at Christmas.

It will probably be empty for Xmas 2018 too. It will take a while to lease and redevelop. How long as H&M been in the works? 2 years+?

Longer from the rumour stage I think, but that was partially due to the Cornwall needing to bring enough space together, a bit of the opposite problem for the Sears spot.

The Cornwall store already feels empty - walked through the other day & it felt weird... like it was closed & I actually wasn't supposed to be in there. Empty racks/ shelving everywhere. All make-up gone.

Yup, I've noticed that too. They've already actually cleared a lot of the merch, likely only leaving some of the lower-margin items. Everything else can be shipped to a store that's remaining open rather than deeply discounting.

Or maybe they are sending it back to suppliers who were not paid for it anyway? I suppose that is probably impractical for most stock.

Yeah, send all the junk that no one wants to the stores that are closing, and send all the good stuff elsewhere.
This is what is happening at Home Outfitters - a store clerk told me that they are receiving unwanted stuff from other stores.

That makes sense. I had noticed the La Crueset stuff disappeared from Home Outfitters in the first ten minutes.

So how soon do you figure they pull the plug on Sears in Regina? Will the doors close before Sept 01 here?

Based on the inventory levels in store last week, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Regina's store is gone by then. More likely is October, though.

I noticed PCL is working in the former Bryan's on 11th. For Lease signs are still up tho.

It would be nice if Chapters or even Indigo Spirit was a tenant in a chunk (Chapters) or a smaller chunk (Indigo Spirit) of Sears once it's gone from Cornwall Centre. I also would love Cineplex to take a chunk of space.

Well get used to it. I suspect once H&M opens, most of the clothing stores in the mall will fold.

Don't know what malls you have been to, but having H&M at the Cornwall will only benefit downtown, the property and ALL the other tenants. Large International anchors = more traffic. Period. Plus the majority of tenants at the Cornwall are national chains, which won't be folding up unless they are going backrupt.

Regina isn't Toronto, or Vancouver. If you don't think retailers like American Eagle, or Below the Belt are going to see a drop in sales, you are kidding yourself.
