There are around 60 decendants of Ernest Hemingway's cats living at the Hemingway house in Key West. About half of them are polydactyl - having extra toes.

Glowrock-I love it when they look at the small chunks of food floating. Except my cat only likes wet food for some reason. Which I don't think is good for their teeth.

ANYWAYS!

Yeah, my Bengal, Bulu, only likes wet food. He'll eat dry food, but only if he's basically forced to! :)

But yeah, I think it's hilarious when they look at the kibbles floating in their water! Hahaha

I just came home after two weeks on the countryside. My cat loves the forest! And I love to walk with him there. He's happy and excited, but always keeps close to me, like a dog. :)

Another beauty.

There used to be a couple who walked their cat down our street. It was really neat to watch as the cat always stayed very close to them. Almost like being on a leash but there wasn't one.

Hah, I remember when the kitty I had when I was a kid sat on the couch and napped the day away in that pose. Or the bed. It was definitely her favorite pose. I miss my old cat...

Glowrock--you have a Bengal? Me too--her name is Maharet (actually, it's officially KitzNKatz Maharet), which is an Anne Rice reference to those who've never read her vampire novels. She's a slut:

Yep, I've got a Bengal, BTinSF. Bulu's just the black/grey/white, while obviously yours is more of the golden color... ;) Is Maharet more of a dog than a cat as well? Bulu loves to jump up into my lap, he like to play fetch, and loves to get petted. Only sometimes does he revert back to cat-dom and pretend he's actually a cat! Hahaha

And a Great Dane. I love big animals. I hate those little dogs that never shut up. I just wanna kick them. Not really, but they're annoying as hell.

Yup. She fetches and she's the most vocal cat I've ever encountered. We have lots of conversations. At night, when I'm in bed, she comes up near my head and demands that I raise up the sheet/blanket so she can crawl under and get petted while she "kneeds" my stomach.

SF I'm pretty sure. In SF I have an apartment on 2 levels and one of the bedrooms has a big west-facing window with a convertible sofa in it (I use it as a combo office/guest room). Maharet pretty much has made the back of that sofa, where the sun hits most of every afternoon, her spot where she sleeps all afternoon and evening (so she can be awake harrasing me all night). But she also likes to run up and down the stairs. And there is a straight shot between the bedrooms where she can get up some speed too. Finally, the SF place has wall to wall carpet which gives her plenty of traction.

My Tucson place has roof overhangs that keep out most of the sun (except for a little bit that comes in the master bedroom window and hits the bed which is where you'll find her in the afternoons in Tucson). It's also all on one level so no stairs for exercise. And there are tile floors which means lots of slipping and sliding when trying to run. I do have a walled outdoor patio there where she can explore a little bit of nature and a screened porch where she can at least smell it when the weather's warm enough to leave the sliding door open, but I have to go out and guard her on the patio from the neighborhood wildlife: hawks, rattlers, even coyotes. So she can't be out there alone and that limits the amount of time she gets outside. The best deal for her about Tucson is a luxury cat box:

Aleks Aug 21, 2009 5:33 AM

OMG! I've wanted one of those for years! Except I like the vanity one better. That way you don't waste too much space and you can use it as storage is case something happens to your kitty. Which sounds like a sad thing.

BTinSF Aug 21, 2009 8:53 AM

:previous: The people who make them are very nice and they will ship them anywhere. I saw them on a visit to Bisbee but didn't buy right away. When I got home, I decided I wanted one and didn't want to drive back to Bisbee. They shipped it to me quite reasonably. And they do custom work--design modifications, colors, anything you want. So if you are serious, give them a call.

Photobucket's getting weird. Now they let you post a hi-res image but then they make it go away the next day.

Anyway, I stepped down a notch in size.

A week ago this past Monday I brought home a kitten that had been hanging out around my building at work. Went to the vet on Labor Day and found out she's about 6 months old.

I had always wanted to get a cat and name him/her "Stupid," so I could say, "Hey Stupid, come here." :) So I named her Stupid. :D

Actually when I registered her at the vet I told them her name was Marina because I was working in the Marina Building where I found her.

Anywhere here are some pics. :)

Aww how cute. :)

James Bond Agent 007 Sep 21, 2009 1:39 AM

I'm starting to get pissed at this kitty. It keeps losing its little mouse toys. Yesterday I spent at least a half hour looking for one of them only to find it buried in the most obscure location. Today I've spent probably an hour-and-a-half looking for the same one but cannot find it ANYWHERE!

At this rate I'm gonna end up spending $100 a month just on kitty toy replacements.

Just buy larger toys that can't disappear under furniture / appliances. Or get doorknob / door hanging ones.. they'll break eventually but only after a couple weeks at least. :)
