There's a lot of good taste here in SSP land.
Look out Olga, your cat (Marcus?) is getting ready to escape.

Homes like these with the mansard style roofs were very popular in the 1870's and 1880's. Loved by the general public at the time, they were, believe it or not, frowned upon by elitist architects as "bad design." I have an original 1886 Shoppells home plan catalog and they show a mansard home design and the author writes "While we do not endorse this style we will show you this plan because of their popularity at this time." Me, I love this style, it's one of my favorite historical designs and don't understand the stink they caused back then by the snobs.
Enjoy your new home, cabasse.

^I love 1920s garden apartments like yours and rockyi's- shame that idea didn't catch on more. I could never live in an apartment with a sealed fireplace though- it would eat at my brain and I'm sure one day I would smash the false front and light something on fire.

This is a FABULOUS idea for a thread- this probably is more telling about forumers' personalities than "post your own photo".

Cabasse, I think Mies would be angry with you for moving into a house straight out of Lemony Snickett, but awesome find.

For those who don't know I go to Penn State, in the creatively named hamlet of State College, Pennsylvania. These are from tonight: my camera doesn't like low light, and I don't like bright light, but here we go:

an honest portrait of my kitchen:

equally honest portrait of my living room. I have great luck finding secondhand furniture:

from College & Atherton- if only the other side of the street looked like this. I'm the one with the icicle lights:

bonus: my back "porch" as seen by the cam in my laptop, from my bedroom window. Note the bird-of-paradise I moved into the living room. I miss the summer:

I took these a couple of weeks ago.

Here's part of my living room.

I live in the attic apartment atop that Red house. It's 99 years old this year!

Yup, you're right that's Marcus! He's old and wise enough not to jump from the fourth floor though.

The outside of my place, the Congress, built 1911, Calgary, Alberta.
This picture was taken last January. Quite a difference in snow compared to this year:

And the inside: (note the amount of snow outside and also, spot the cat!)

clearer picture of living room, in daytime. Still getting the hang of my camera:

I still think this thread should be moved to skybar.

As far as a story behind the picture, not really. I just thought it was an interesting looking picture. Its titled Sophisticated Lady, and I bought at a local art store which specialize in African Art. I think the owner told me she picked it up in Jamaica, but where it came from originally perhaps Denmark?

Okay... Jamaica..?? We did sell the Virgin Islands to you guys so if she had picked it up there it might would have explained it as there's still a lot of connections between the people living there and Denmark - but Jamaica...???

Anyway it's not important - I just saw the "Denmark" and thought that you might have a connection to us somehow :)

I was thinking of changing the wall colour but I still kinda like it. I painted it that colour when I moved in 3 years ago..

And the rent for my place has gone up recently but it's still relatively cheap for inner-city Calgary...

Yup, it's the same cat. Kirby is his name and he seems to think he owns the place and I'm just renting from him...

Speaking for myself, my condo has been paid for since my closing, not because I have a great income, my secret is living in a stagnant, rust-belt city where everything is cheap and then finding a great bank-repo property on the market. :D
