Not all of them, but a number are artfully composed or have a contradictory beauty because they are so horrifying (eg., the apocalyptic scene on the Clark Ave bridge in Cleveland, with the plumes of industrial smoke and old cars bathed in the glow of a picturesque sunrise).

Ahhhhhh yes, the 70s. To paraphrase one of them famous guys: It was my best of times, it was my worst of times.

Mostly happy memories, but as the pics point out, not always the prettiest.

Is the fourth-to-last photo Seattle? I can't figure it out.

Centropolis Dec 17, 2011 3:41 AM

I like. I've always thought of the 70s as a major transitional time in America where the "old world" relatively speaking was quickly dying concurrent with a new both better and worse world that was being constructed, the one I grew up in. Whenever I can find photos of cities especially during the 1970s and very early 80s I get pretty excited. Thanks for posting this Okayyou!
