just a little more sappy if you please...I mentioned in a post yesterday that this forum goes a long way in satisfying my need to relive the past. I spend much of my free time writing a family history as genealogy is a passion. And when I’m not working on that (which is less often than my wife would like) I’m checking out this and other LA history sites. But the main thing is that thanks to all of you who take the time to devote your efforts here, I can remember and cherish those wonderful moments of growing up in Los Angeles…

Hey all, wanted to say hello and thank everyone for all of the amazing photos and info in this thread. Now that I've read through every page, I'm gonna stop being a "lurker" and try to be as active a contributor as possible. I feel like my knowledge may pale in comparison to most of the "regulars" here but I think there's a few things I can add to the thread. Sure hope so anyway!

One question for those who lived there, how was TV reception around the city during the 50's, 60's, and 70's?

This house was originally located at the northwest corner of Myrtle and Foothill in Monrovia. Its present (1982) location is 626 W. Colorado in Monrovia. It was built in 1887 by C.Z. Culver and shortly afterward sold to Mrs. Catherine Wilson. The house was moved circa 1921 to 116 W. White Oak Avenue and circa 1925 to 626 W. Colorado.

I am back somewhere in the 300s :uhh: but it is great to see that many of the original posters are still here, and big thanks to e_r for his devotion to the cause.

I will do another Lookout Mountain Inn post soon - 3940dxer and I prowled around the Lookout Mountain Park subdivision last week and we have some new info from the archives.

Terrible! at least up here in the Hollywood Hills, and I'm on a ridge top. I remember Channel 2 always had ghosts, and Channel 7 required antenna contortions to see even faintly. Now, with my Time-Warner Cable TV, I don't see channel 2 at all. Progress!

We live in Burbank, up against the Verdugos so our reception was terrible. We would get Channel 2 (CBS), Channel 4 (NBC) and partly Channel 5 (Local) All the signals came from Mt Wilson and we were in the shadow of the hills from that. Our only clear signal came from Mt Lee in Griffith Park where the towers for 2 and 4 were located. There was one for channel 5 there as well but on the southern side so that from our house, everyone on channel 5 had three heads. (somewhat disconcerting) My cousins lived on the "flats" in Burbank and could get Channel 7 (ABC) and local stations channels 11 & 13. They could see shows we had never heard of. We felt deprived. We got cable in the late 60s and things improved but then you had to pay for it.
