^ very neat. man, metro rail, the metro mover, tri-rail and this new brightline, all at metro center. it's so drool-inducing. here in san francisco, where the rail transportation is far better (imo), we don't have a central station at all. it's seriously jealousy-inducing.

^ Thanks for the comment.
I'm quite surprised to hear that SF doesn't have a central station at all ! Somehow I was thinking of the Trans-Bay terminal ?
It's quite amazing to see something like Brightline develop here in the state & the most nerve wracking part was if Tri-Rail was going to be included at the last minute.
Thankfully it did happen & I hope Brightline is very succesfull and will be a catalyst for growth in Florida. If it is a success maybe other private railroads will dip their feet into private passenger rail lines across the US as well !
Crossing my fingers and can only hope ! :)

Has funding been secured for the extension to Orlando? This service will be more comfortable and faster than Tri-Rail but until any northern extension is complete it will still be providing similar transportation benefits that Tri-Rail already provides, right?

Yes, very similar but a faster express service between West Palm Beach and Miami. I do not believe that they have yet sold the bonds needed or raised other funds to build Phase 2 to Orlando. A state board has given them permission to sell low yield bonds, and that's being disputed in court. I don't believe the legal process has concluded or agreed to an injunction to prevent selling these bonds, although that could happen soon.
I expect events both in and out of court to proceed quickly after the release of the Final Environmental Impact Study.

Do I get to be the first one to post this? Here is the video Brightline released to their Youtube channel showing the locomotives rolling around:

Two thoughts:
1) Wow, they really dress up for the test drives at Siemens.
2) Reshaping the Charger locomotives to have a bullet-shaped nose didn't work so well from certain angles. It starts to look more like the shovel-faced locomotives used in Alaska:

Just not enough length to make a really sleek bullet nose.
Notwithstanding, it is a very good looking locomotive, and it will definitely be one of the sleekest-looking trains in the country. Can't wait to see them running at speed with a full consist!

It's streamlined more than what was ordered for amtrak to run. More than sufficient for a 125 mph train.

You should check out the streamlining of the Acela trains, they're not much better than these. :runaway:

I really like the look of Acela. It's got a very nice shape in the front, and the paint scheme complements it very well. It's the slope of the front face as well as the distance between the front tip of the nose and the leading truck. The Brightline locomotives have a steeper slope and a shorter depth of the nose.

That said, I like the Brightline locomotives much more than the token streamlining given to the Amtrak version. Those have so little sense of style it's hard to believe that they are the same locomotive underneath.
