Can't believe I missed that. But that sort of a light show I assume will be reserved for special occasions...?

Great upgrade to the "King of All Buildings"

It's nice to see an old masterpiece revitalized with new technology. I wonder how the new LEDs compare to the old floodlights in terms of cost and electricity usage. They used to change colored cels by hand to change the color didn't they? The new light panels definitely take up a lot less space too.

Now if they moved some of that broadcasting clutter and restore the old silhouette, that would be fantastic.

Not quite...

BTW; That light show was simply incredible. How lucky you guys in NY are to be able to see that in person! I'm jealous.

ESB Lion King by Ceva321, on Flickr

:previous: I don't think that's correct. The movie came out in 1994, so it should be around 18 years old.

MolsonExport Dec 5, 2012 1:38 PM

Honoring...the Lion King? what the hell is so special about the Lion King? This only serves to trivialize the marking of occasions.

NYCLuver Dec 5, 2012 2:39 PM

I think it was marking the Lion King, the play on Broadway, not the movie.

And I think it was honored because it is the most successful play in Broadway history or something.

I love NY, but the lion king? c'mon.

jd3189 Dec 6, 2012 3:34 AM

:previous: Hey, it was Disney's best film/ Broadway show. It has a significant impact in American pop culture.

thank you NYCLuver you are totally right....

The light show was honoring The Lion King Broadway show NOT The Lion King the movie... :)

The Lion King is very special because earlier this year, The Lion King passed The Phantom of the Opera to become the highest-grossing show in Broadway history.

Only four shows have had a longer run, and with a cumulative worldwide gross of more than $5 billion, the musical has earned more than all six Star Wars films combined.

For Taymor’s visionary creation, the circle of life looks more like an unbroken line.
