I didn't mind the mayhem--but IMO too many pictures in one post lessens the impact of the pictures and the post.... |
I appreciate the noirish photographs riichkay. . .but I have to agree with AlvaroLegido.
If you space them out, say one murder per post, we would be more apt to dig up additional information & comment on them. (like we did with the William Door arrest / murder) We have seen a few of the noirish images on NLA so that's why the images haven't been commented on this time around. (but it never hurts to see them again) I see GW pretty much said the same thing. (I didn't see his post until after I posted this one) . |
Good observations/advice from GW and E_R....and the Ansonia incident was posted back in 2011, but the images are now gone....
|
And a search turned up a CBD post of the Sullivan murder/suicide photo back in 2015....the image is now gone from that post.

Its not just Skyscraper, thousands of blogs and websites are now decimated ghost towns. |
Surprisingly, I don't believe we have seen this 'Jackie Coogan' building on NLA.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/XO3QrI.jpg eBay There he is at the top. . .and it's a very good likeness. info: July 11, 1949 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/0k5Gpy.jpg I hope to God the building is still standing but to be honest I'm afraid to look. Here's a closer look. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/GGqMTx.jpg detail . |

https://i.postimg.cc/ydv2hNZ7/Coogan...AINFNL4-FB.jpg 673 South Oxford Avenue Jackie's parents were pieces of work--famous exploiters of their son's earnings, leading to the famous Coogan Law of 1939 (which we may or may not have come across on NLA before). While doing various renovations on the house Jackie's money bought on Oxford Avenue, they invested his earnings in Rolls-Royces and the garage-and-store-building on Vermont. At least they acknowledged their son in stone. More on the Coogans here: https://losangeleshistory.blogspot.c...-also-see.html This article from the LAT of March 16, 1924, refers to Jackie's bust: https://i.postimg.cc/63xPgSX8/cooganbldguttt.png |

Speaking of child stars exploited by their parents, it happens that Baby Peggy died yesterday at the age of 101. The Coogans used Jackie's dough to buy the Oxford Avenue house in Feb 1922; in Jan 1923, Peggy's parents were reported in the trades to have just bought a house in Beverly Hills. I don't know if this is it, although her age looks about right (she was born on Oct 29, 1918)-- https://i.postimg.cc/W1PDqH98/babypeggy-bmp.jpg |
In 2011 I saw Kevin Brownlow interview Diana Serra Carey (Baby Peggy) the same night they showed “The Big Parade”, in their Summer of Silents film series.
This is something AMPAS put on youtube to do with that series. This must've been an interview shortly after we saw her because at one point she says "the other evening when we were sitting through the Big Parade." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYZNZp6-F9k |

Did you look ER or GW? 678 Vermont Ave., south of Wilshire, is a public parking lot. The area seems all new/newish buildings, parking garages and some strip malls. |

The building lasted from 1924 to 1975.... See https://losangeleshistory.blogspot.c...-also-see.html |
