Perry Mason house
The home pictured on page 2446 is actually in the Biltmore Estates area of Phoenix, Arizona. I was unable to get a Google street view as it's a gated community these days. It's located on Biltmore Estate Drive just south of E. Thunderbird Trail, backing up to the golf course.

You must mean GW's house from Perry Mason. It appears to be 36 Biltmore Estates, Phoenix, AZ. The property websites give a build date of 1952 (and one claims there's parking for 37 cars!). http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/z...asonHouse1.jpg Google Maps There are 38 interior/exterior photos at www.redfin.com. Here are the original screengrabs for comparison: Quote:

That's great, thanks for finding it Peeweehal and Hoss. Well, so it's only a pretend L.A. house. I wonder how the producers came up with something in Phoenix to use as an establishing shot for an LA location? PS Does anyone else remember when Google satellite views didn't look like cartoons? |

Racing Go Karts in Burbank!

REVERSE https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/ULHj8n.jpg Does anyone know of a go-kart track located in Burbank? [back in the 1930s] Let's see those racing starlets up close. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/923/gNPhNf.jpg So what do you think the horizontal pipe behind the grill-work is for? If it's for exhaust wouldn't it go right in the driver's face? _ |
Perry Mason house
That house has been used in a couple of movies, and I vaguely remember it being used in an episode of Route 66. It's possible they had access to stock footage from a different production company.

https://i.postimg.cc/K8KCvsWh/Lona-1.jpg She had brief appearances in some notable films early in her career, including Paramount's all-star comedy International House (1933), where she actually received on-screen billing in the opening credits. Note the highfalutin accent over the e in her name. https://i.postimg.cc/K8dwKDXk/Lona-2.jpg Sadly, the musical number in which she danced, "She Was a China Tea-cup and He Was Just a Mug," is chiefly memorable for her screen partner Sterling Holloway. (He, of course, went on to become the voice of Winnie-the-Pooh many years later.) https://i.postimg.cc/pTvSCVLP/Lona-3.jpg Her starring roles were in instantly forgettable movies such as The Timid Young Man (1935), possibly Buster Keaton's worst short film. https://i.postimg.cc/Zqpg6vZf/Lona-4.jpg There were also starring roles in a few sub-B-movie westerns and melodramas. Her career really hit the skids in the late thirties when she was the leading lady in exploitation films like Slaves in Bondage (1937) and Race Suicide (1938). https://i.postimg.cc/tJCM0r6f/Lona-5.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/ydTbbqDc/Lona-6.jpg Her post-Hollywood career as a businesswoman was reportedly much more successful. (I haven't been able to discover exactly what business she was in.) As for the go-kart track...I haven't a clue. Sorry, this wasn't very helpful. I'll shut up now. |

If Lona had a successful career in real estate, no one seems to have been writing about it. In 1942, she was working in an airplane factory, it seems, when she was married for a second time, to a coworker. Anyway, a couple of items about her...it's the second one I was especially interested in since it's about her brush with "the world's richest Indian"--Jackson Barnett--during the "Battle of Wilshire" or, more accurately, getting the door of 644 S Rossmore slammed in her face during a publicity stunt. (Hot dog vendors figured into the scene.) She was in the company of no less than Senator William Gibbs McAdoo and Superior Court Judge Charles S. Crail, who were all spurned by Mr. Barnett's crazy protector and chief leech (his wife Anna) along with club ladies ("a bunch of old hags") while trying to help. https://i.postimg.cc/fyk9nmNV/andre1.bmp.jpg LAT Nov 15, 1932 https://i.postimg.cc/XJZg9pH6/andrebarnettpic.bmp.jpghttps://i.postimg.cc/rmVh4nS7/andrebarnetttxt.bmp.jpg LAT Oct 29, 1938 I'm sure we've read about Jackson Barnett on NLA before, but I couldn't find anything. Anyway, the full story is here: https://wilshireboulevardhouses.blog...lease-see.html https://i.postimg.cc/05fCm0jq/andre_WB.bmp.jpg |

Just so you know..NLA's 10th anniversary is this coming summer, June 2019. CBD's post confused me as well. The flashing image definitely makes it look like it was that day. (I've been receiving emails congratulating us) It would no doubt help if CityBoydoug removed the 'flashing ribbon thingy' and just write "NLA's 10th Anniversary is....". He already has JUNE 2019 written...so that's a start. (I tried to send a private message but there's a hic-cup in my stored email file) |
