Kenosha Strong

Aug 31

Was up in Kenosha, was a 2020 version of homecoming, with all the store windows painted - but there were no windows - and the slogans were not what they were in my days.

More Windows

The number of painted board ups is impressive - as is their persistent positiveness. This is how they bounced back after AMC left.

In the middle of a project - in the middle of mayhem.

The Lake

One of the things that Kenosha has in common with all the great cities ( Milwaukee, Waukegan, Chicago ) is lake Michigan.

many feelings from these photos. Fifth Avenue, Fordham Road and Lower Broadway looked similar in NYC after the initial George Floyd murder riots. Sad and empathetic over the businesses boarded up, but proud as an American of the messages of rebirth and other art painted on that plywood.

Mr T does bring people together.

Once again - many many more women than you would have seen in the '80s

How many blocks are boarded up?

Austinlee Sep 4, 2020 8:59 PM

I was expecting a depressing photo thread but the messages on the windows were surprisingly optimistic and hopeful. This was a powerful thread to look through. Thanks a bunch for sharing these harryc. Hoping the city (and this country in general) comes out the other side of this years social unrest a better and more equal country. We need it.

Welcoming the President

Sept 1

There were predominantly Trump signs in the suburbs, but once in Kenosha proper the mood changed.

A small band of protestors on the edge of the welcoming crowd ( stuck outside the city when the roads were closed ).
