1940's San Francisco
These photos were published by the SF Chronicle and are from a book by Gene Wright. Actually, I mispoke in the title. Most of them are from the 50's and 60's (sorry about that--can't change the thread title):

It's so amazing to see how much The City has changed... and yet, how little has changed at the same time.

Actually, that part of the city is virtually the same now. I'm sure somebody has a more recent pic of this same vantage point.
