[QUOTE=ethereal_reality;6304967]I know several of our members were taken to Bullock's Pasadena by their mothers when they were children.
http://imageshack.us/a/img600/2124/r5et.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img593/4526/96hc.jpg ebay Do any of you remember having lunch there? please tell- __ Oh Yes. You dressed for that outing. For me at age 6 it was a suit and tie. Nothing like being uncomfortable in a wool suit and having to be on your best behavior. You knew you had crossed the line when mom "gave you that look" I did not enjoy going because I'd rather be playing with my friends. I still have memories of these outings 60 years later. I always ordered the PB&J. I recall it came with the crust trimmed from the bread and sliced into four sections on the diagional. More like four little finger sandwiches. The big deal at Bullock's Pasadena was the day after Christmas sell. I went along for one of those adventures. I remember all of the women were outside awaiting for the doors to open. When opened I was pushed out of the way and knocked to the ground from the women rushing through the door! I remember a lot of screaming and shouting too. Gary Dunn Lind, WA. |

The 1909 City Directory has a listing for a plumber named John M. Eustace at 830 Ceres Avenue. I wonder if that's the J. Eustace in the picture. The shop in the picture seems to be numbered 708. |
Finally found: the scale model of the Garden of Allah Hotel
As a regular peruser and occasional contributor to this wonderful page, I've noticed some interest in the now long-gone Garden of Allah Hotel which stood at 8152 Sunset Blvd (or 8150 or 8080 depending on who you're listening to) from 1927 to 1959.
When the hotel was razed to make way for an eyesore of a mini mall, a scale model was built and put on display in the (then) Lytton Savings bank that still stands there today (albeit under a different name.) I've been trying to track down that model, ever optimistic that it still existed and recently I found that it did and the guy who has it kindly let me see it. I thought fans of this website might like to see some of the photos I took. Here are four of them: http://imageshack.us/a/img36/9554/xi08.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img22/1007/oeq2.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img31/3235/59mt.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img46/8336/0fy2.jpg You can see more photos and some 20-second footage I took on the post I added yesterday to my blog: http://martinturnbull.wordpress.com/...l-scale-model/ And for a history of the building (this year marks the 100th anniversary of construction of the original building that became Alla Nazimova's movie star mansion which then evolved into the Garden of Allah Hotel, you can check out this post: http://martinturnbull.wordpress.com/...-angeles-icon/ Hope you guys find it of some interest! "You see it was believed by the Tibetan monks that Dr. Dingle was the reincarnation of a lama who had passed on, apparently at a young age. Dr. Dingle was given the Tibetan name Ding Le Mei."
Everything you ever wanted to know about Ding Le Mei and then some: http://www.planetlightworker.com/art...o/article1.htm http://www.jtrcc.org/blog/2010/3/2/f...ua-tree-r.html http://www.visionmagazine.com/archiv...ates_city.html Well, I hate to post anything without a picture. The only thing with "ding" in it that turns up at the LAPL is this picture, which looks promising and a lot more fun than a reincarnated lama... http://jpg2.lapl.org/pics44/00056746.jpg Per the LAPL: "The Dominican luxury craft rocked and rolled today after an all-night cork-popping, girlie-giggling wing-ding, hosted by Rafael Trujillo. She became the biggest privately owned sailing yacht ever built. In connection with a divorce, Hutton handed over the "Hussar" to his ex. wife, who renamed her "Sea Cloud". Through the connections of Mrs. Hutton, the "Sea Cloud" became a floating diplomatic palace in Leningrad, serving the US Ambassador to Russia, and in that capacity "Sea Cloud" saw many prominent guests, - including crowned heads. |
