Image Posting Guide

Image Must Be Online

To post images in the forum they must be hosted on a website and then properly formatted into your post. Images residing only on your computer can't be posted or uploaded to the forum unless they are put online.

Websites where you can host images are PostImage, ImageShack, and Flickr. If you have images on your computer and want to post them in the forum then use one of these websites to host the images. If the images you want to post are already online then there is no need to do this.

Get The Image's URL

When the image you wish to post in the forum is properly hosted on a website then you need to get the URL of the image. The URL of the image is the exact web address which the image can be found at. Don't mistake the URL of the webpage the image appears on for the URL of the image.

To get the URL of an image do this:
- in Chrome: right-click on the image and select "Copy image address"
- in Firefox: right-click on the image and select "Copy Image Location"
- in Internet Explorer: right-click on the image, select "Properties", highlight the Address field and press Ctrl+C

After this the image URL will be held in your computers clipboard.

Post Image Using IMG Tag
Now you are ready to put the image into your post. Use the IMG tag to do this. You can also click the http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/imag...nsertimage.gif button which is available above the text area when you write your post. Press Ctrl+V to paste the URL from the clipboard.

The image URL must be enclosed by the IMG tag like this:

[img]http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/page/images/skyline.jpg[/img]

It is also necessary to properly credit the source of the images that you post. The image we are using here comes from the National Institutes of Health via Wikipedia (link) so we state them as the source.

The final result is:

Additional Notes

You can give an image a black border by using the IMG= tag followed by a number specifying the width of the border.

When posting multiple images you will want to separate them with a blank line so that they do not appear cluttered together.

Some websites or photographers do not allow you to post their images onto another website. Posting images from one website onto another website is called hot-linking and is not always a respectful thing to do. Before posting images from another website look to see if there are any strict copyright notices or any other messages that indicate that the owner of the images or website do not agree to their images being used in this way.

An image with a URL such as C:\Windows\Documents\skyline.jpg will not work because it is hosted locally on a computer and is not accessible to others via the web.

The ability to attach images or other files is not available in the forum.

The Sloat Garden Center, a fixture on Sloat Street in San Francisco for more than 50 years, is slated to close as the owner prepares to sell the Sunset District site to a developer who plans to build condos there.

An application filed with the San Francisco Planning Department on April 1 details plans for a 213-unit, mixed-use development at 2700 Sloat Blvd., a one-block site totaling nearly one acre near Ocean Beach and the San Francisco Zoo.

The project is slated to feature 65 two-bedroom, 22 three-bedroom, 28 one-bedroom and 98 studio apartments, spread across three eight-story buildings on three separate parcels. The PPA also proposes an alternative that would feature “one building with multiple two story towers that could possibly connect.”

Every photo page on Flickr has "Share Photo" button at the bottom-right side of the photo. It is an arrow symbol beside the "Edit Photo" button. Click on the "Share Photo" button, then a dialog box will pop up for you to choose the size that you want to share, and then copy and paste the code that Flickr provides.
