A Chicago puzzle
Where was this photo by Vivian Maier taken?
https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011...38_964x930.jpg It is interesting because of the NYC-style residential density at the foot of the tower in the foreground. |

The article has to be wrong... this looks like New York because it IS New York. |
kind of a weird one. the taller buildings look midwestern but the lower buildings look nyc. chicago did have some quasi-nyc tenement areas near downtown that were almost completely urban-renewed.

it has to be new york i cant make any angle on that work.
|
I THINK the highrise second to left in the background is the Ritz Tower on Park Avenue, but could it be the Randolph tower? Can't find the foreground mini-scraper...
|
My New York theory would mean this is the UES somewhere near Rockefeller University....
|
OK, thinking the little guy is the Beekman Tower ...
https://goo.gl/maps/CDcdnNdg6ktcA1mVA that would make this the UN area... But I am still unsure on the dark brick building to the right. |
i really don't have a good high-resolution intuitive street-level feel for the shape of nyc across time like i do for the midwest or west, or at least its not very fresh. i couldn't read it. but i could still easily tell that something wasn't quite right, not sure how that passed muster.

Looking North-East from Beekman ?

That's it.
