One thing that San Antonio really does right and has going for it is public spaces. It has so many good ones all over downtown. It's kind of overwhelming really having to choose which ones to visit with the time you have to do it.

San Antonio is a beautiful city (my favorite in Texas); although I lived there in the mid nineties so I’m admittedly biased.

Yeah San Antonio has been on my bucket list to visit for street-level experience.
Why on earth did they build that butt-ugly observation tower? City deserved better. Lights at night help but... |

Just went through a lot of photos in this thread. What a beautiful city we have! It's a shame I never spent more time downtown and around the central core when I was growing up there. I haven't been to the riverwalk in years.
Pearl has turned out fantastic. One of the most successful revitalization projects I've seen as a designer. To think that area was a dump and wasteland 10-12 years ago. |

Thanks for posting all these new photos, Paul. I had no idea all these things were there, and I'm only 80 miles from SAT. I'm mainly familiar with the central downtown area, which I love. It's really like being in another country.

Probably an unpopular opinion here but I actually like much of suburban San Antonio. Something about the topography and hybrid Texan/Spanish influences make it kinda unique as far as car-dependent sprawl is concerned.

I'm removing this thread and deleting my forum membership. I am being blocked from sharing photos of this great city. Someone must have photo envy and its understandable, San Antonio is one of the most picturesque cities in the nation. I have been a forum member since 1999 and I am out of here so sick of this bull!@#$!
oh btw, on a side note, I look dam !@#$%ing good for my age look way younger so if you dont like it to dam bad!!!!! Im the exact same age as Jeniffer Lopez, who cares anyway. Your indirect insults online are appreciated. |

I think there will be an HEB like this one at Bandera and 1604 very soon. HEB announced a major influx of money into that location. I cannot remember the amount , but it was a lot of money.

THis is a great opinion Nomad. The topography and the "Confluence of Cultures" does make the The Alamo City unique. In fact this was the theme of the 1968 Hemisfair , the Confluence of Cultures. THIS WAS A WORLD'S FAIR.
The City lives at the edge of the coastal plains and the arid southwestern climate of the U.S. , right at the dividing line== the 98the Meridian I think it is. Sort of in between with aspects of both climates in San Antonio. It is nearly always hot and humid and bone dry, simultaneously. The climate is a contradiction. Besides 27 million visitors annually can't be wrong. -- Pre-Pandemic figures anyway. Some famous visitors have said the same thing as you over the last 150 years.Mark Twain stated after visiting San Antonio that the City was one of four unique American Cities along with Boston, New Orleans and San Francisco. Twain said that from one spot in the Main Plaza one could see Cowboys, farmers, Senoritas, business people, day laborers, shop owners and young women vendors serving Mexican dishes at picnic tables, cooking right there, downtown in the open air. J. Frank Dobie was very colorful in his description of the Village of San Antonio- arriving well before Mark Twain's time. Dobie described the San Antonio River as a mile wide and luxuriant with tropical vegetation and naked nymphs were darting about in the River, swimming. A virtual paradise. Quote:
