Here's another interesting photograph currently on eBay

Seller's description:..."1930'S PHOTO EATON'S STEAK CHICKEN HOUSE RESTAURANT WILSHIRE BLVD LOS ANGELES CA"

The biggest knife and fork I've ever seen.

Here's a menu with the Wilshire location at lower left.

hmmm. . .the one illus. looks like court yard apartments. What's that all about?

For comparison here's a closer look at the drawing on the billboard.

It looks like a huge complex. Do you think the project fell through?

I couldn't resist. :)

The biggest damn knife and fork I've ever seen.

Based on the fact that every single person is wearing a heavy coat, that looks like a very cold day on Wilshire Blvd. I wouldn't mind a few of those now.

It appears that the three lower photos are of Eaton's Santa Anita Restaraunt - Drive - In and Bungalows.

15901 S Vermont Avenue is still standing, but sadly it's lost its 'eyes'!

As you can see the street number is 15901 and. . .

the street is Vermont Ave.

.

And it's still there, minus a few of the decorative elements:

The left side of the apartment reminds me of something but I can't put my finger on it.

I was always fascinated by these two apartment buildings.
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.1270...7i13312!8i6656
See those hubcap sized circles beside the chimneys? Those were Gold Medallion plaques which indicated the buildings were electric only - none of that relic of the 19th century, natural gas.

Then one day the plaques were gone.
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.1269...7i13312!8i6656

I always wondered if somebody swiped them or if the owner made the unpardonable sin of providing cheaper utilities for the tenants. Also, I don't think I've ever seen giant medallions like these anywhere else. From what I've read, the all-electric gold medallions were small medals or decals or special doorbells. Has anybody else seen one of the giant plaques attached to a building?

Here's what they looked like:

The bars on the first floor windows are a nice decorative touch.

I'll never forget my first trip to Beverly Hills in 1980. I was shocked that so many houses had bars on their windows. Just a bird in a gilded cage?

That is surprising. Still with cassette or with cd?

I just checked all the past posts that mention elephants & I didn't see the following photographs.

This group of four photographs were on eBay several months ago. .

. . .and show an Elk's Club that, if I remember correctly, the seller said was located in the Los Angeles area.

Let's take a closer look at the shenanigans going on at the top of the stairs.

The young boys in the crowd are also wearing interesting hats. I see a couple of beanies and the smallest boy is wearing, what looks like, a Tyrolean hat with a feather.
Sidenote:...I wore a hat like that when I was a kid to hide my big ears.....(luckily my head eventually caught up with my ears and I'm considered normal now)

Were the elephants inside the building!?...

In this last view you can see a five-globe standard Llewellyn streetlight. . .

. . .and if you look closely there are a couple of signs in the distance.

I'm pretty sure this photo is flipped. The Hard Rock Cafe showed up in an episode of Columbo. (The episode is "A Friend in Deed" Season 3 episode 8.) There's a screen grab on this page http://columboscreenshots.blogspot.c...4-part-09.html

Here's the screen grab showing the original Hard Rock Cafe

For any children reading this, it's on the back side of the Doors' album, Morrison Hotel. Which raised another puzzle which I've been unable to solve. A comment on this page says that it appears in an episode of Adam 12 called "Suspect Number One" which aired on Oct 29, 1974. Season 7, episode 5. It says it's 25 minutes into a 30 minute episode. I'm not seeing it. Any help??

Nope, but I can make out the sign which says 2700 W 7th, which is at Rampart.

Thanks! Took me a few minutes to spot that near the top of the Water and Power building. Also in frame is the Packard site oil well building, 5733 W. Pico.

Looks like Sigourney Weaver. She'd be around 28/29 in this picture, which dates from the year before the release of 'Alien'.

The Silver Platter's still on the corner of 7th and Rampart (as Mackerm said). I don't know if it still has the same clientele.
