Way to go Houston. Every week its two towers or more that are being proposed it seems. Fantastic news for Harris County. America's fastest growing county! :)

The interesting parts of this announcement are the list of retailers supposedly confirmed to be part of the retail mix and the developer; Thor's primarily a New York developer, with only one other property in Texas - Cinco Ranch. It would be nice to know if there's a start date envisioned.

Signs of progress: The project is listed on the Planning Commission Agenda, seeking approval.

Ah, progress. I expect the permit to show up in the pages of the HBJ soon.

There's a variance board posted in front of Hendrick's now, good to see!

A portion of the site is now fenced off for demolition.

New York-based Thor Equities told the Houston Business Journal that it is gearing up to break ground on the $125 million Kirby Collection, a million-plus-square-foot mixed-use project in Upper Kirby, despite the current oil slump.

"The oil issue is a silver lining for us," said Jack Bousquet, a developer at Thor. "We think we'll get more favorable construction costs and some of the competition will fade."

Demolition of the site's former buildings is finished, and construction is set to start in April or May, Bousquet said. It's slated to be complete in the third quarter of 2017.

April or May, eh? I'm guessing Thor has deep enough pockets, but we'll see if that doesn't slip into June or July...

Building permits received, should begin construction soon.

I live literally across the street from this big property. About two weeks ago they've installed some power lines in the back of the property. Who knows when the will officially start.

The Kirby Collection

The developer, Thor Equities is beginning a short run of utility construction on the north side of Colquitt between Kirby and Lake early next week.

The minor project will take four weeks to complete and will allow overhead utilities to be removed along the Colquitt side.

Can't wait!
