As usual it's been quite a while since I've posted in this thread. I decided to take a look at Belgrade, Serbia.

First off some pics of the CBD:

Some residential:

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1817/2...b738088e_h.jpg

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1804/2...b53fa1ee_h.jpg

Nice building on the right:

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1770/2...72140c9c_h.jpg

But the security cameras and gates make me wonder.

I thought Bob Dole ran for President in '96

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1836/2...77adc9b8_h.jpg

A little bit of grit:

Found a huge cemetery in a residential area:

One of the many entrances (not the flower stands)

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1789/2...b1abf752_h.jpg

I couldn't figure out what the thing was over the gates?

The two biggest football (soccer) clubs in Serbia, and bitter rivals; Red Star and Partizan

A great old train station. The first pic is from 2013

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1785/2...0d4f57e0_h.jpg

Then a few yards away the pic changed to 2014

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1783/2...a309d9e6_h.jpg

I was curious about the big billboard in front:

https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1788/2...ecc6cef8_h.jpg

I checked out the site listed, and WOW.....impressive:

https://www.belgradewaterfront.com/en/about-us-2/

Sadly the train station is going:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgra...ailway_station

Not everyone is happy about the new waterfront:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgrade_Waterfront

Here is the area (note the train sheds toward the bottom right):

Hope you enjoyed. :)

deja vu Jun 22, 2018 3:58 AM

That's too bad about the old train station closing. At least they are preserving the historic station portion, according to wikipedia. Thanks for sharing.

That one photo with the UFO - kinda looks like a leaf, but who knows

I hadn't thought about that, but looking at some of the leaves on the ground in the previous pic, could well be.

Just a single shot in this one in Newburgh, New York.

At first I thought the two guys were checking out the Google vehicle, but scanning to the left I think it may have been someone else.

I'm going with Chester, PA this time. Plenty-o-grit. Here's some more info:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chester,_Pennsylvania

I'll split this into two posts, first up some residential. There are some decent sections in the city, but after looking about a bit I decided on concentrating on the west side (mostly along 3rd street).

I thought this place must have been something special back in the day:

While I post a lot of grit, and find it fascinating, it is sad that there are too many examples of grit throughout the US.

Yikes, I didn't realize I hadn't posted in this thread for over two months. :uhh:

I feel a bit guilty posting a lot of Pennsylvania towns, but I've visited many of them and while it saddens me while I'm there, I do like to share the grit.

Brownsville, PA is located on the Monongahela River about 40 mile south of Pittsburgh. It's lost about 3/4 of it's population in the last 80 years (now less than 2,200). Here's some more info for those interested:

Some houses on the flats. Quite a few empty lots too.

The City's tallest. I believe it's now an apartment building.

A couple of pics on the hill.

Definitely a "dead end" street

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4819/4...f6b2e472_h.jpg

There are several areas with nice homes and some pleasant looking shops.

But I did want to highlight an intersection on the Northside, 5th Ave and Church Street.

A short visit to Lagos, Nigeria.

Looking at an aerial view, I noticed quite a contrast of two areas separated by a small waterway (canal?).

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7825/...67c1df7b_b.jpg

I decided to check out the difference on the ground.

the left side first.

Hospital with barbwire.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7869/...189e488e_h.jpg

Looks like open sewer troughs

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7810/...e7dbe72d_h.jpg

Make sure you vote

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7819/...8b5d269c_h.jpg

Large blue "Clean Water" barrels every couple of blocks

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7874/...bf653f5f_h.jpg

Looks like someone is fond of his house

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7906/...e95adc57_h.jpg

To the right side of the aerial were paved streets, plenty of greenery, and nicer housing

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7865/...f7981f49_h.jpg

Of course there were walls every where on that side

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7801/...848c4b0f_h.jpg

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7861/...dd63ba6c_h.jpg

But I did notice this van parked across the street from the nice building in the pic above.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7919/...a37c8f8f_h.jpg

I headed downtown and went along a freeway to get a skyline pic.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7863/...e9fac56e_h.jpg

I saw a strange building in the middle of the above pic, and wanted to check it out.
It's dead ahead. I just hope the guy in the flashy pajamas on the right isn't dead too.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7925/...31a80cb7_h.jpg

As I got closer I wondered if the building was abandoned

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7879/...3c706695_h.jpg

The wall around it leads me to believe it is abandoned.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7916/...61279a66_h.jpg

I turned around to check out the rest of the intersection and saw this.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7854/...6ea6d4e2_h.jpg

Stamp Collectors!??!
