It sure does. The 1973 CD has the American Massage College at 5504 Hollywood Boulevard. Discount Wigs was at 5500. |
Dead center of this crop:
https://i.imgur.com/qtK2uoR.jpg That's not a movie theater marquee, is it? I don't recall a movie theater ever being there... |

There was a story in the Los Angeles Times recently about the former home of bandleader Ray Anthony coming up for sale.
https://www.latimes.com/business/rea...house-for-sale The photos did not look like the house I remember from the coverage of his big party in 1952 when Marilyn Monroe famously arrived via helicopter so I became curious about the cute little modern house built by engineer Fred O. Reyenga in 1947 for Capitol records executive William Fowler. Upon closer inspection, the original appears to still be there, but swallowed up by a much newer and larger Mission-style house. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...de89d7aa_h.jpg (LAT 8/17/20) https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...77dcc93d_b.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOGVkWRUfWI It is located at 14527 Valley Vista Blvd. Here's Marilyn helpfully posing near the mailbox. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...a13b93aa_b.jpg It was quite the party. In the video these next two shots came from, Anthony says 500 members of the press attended. I love the idea that 98-year-old Ray Anthony is still blowing his horn in the hills above L.A. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...0805236c_b.jpghttps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9727fa9f_b.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV3niaYXs2M Here is the real estate listing: https://sallyforsterjones.com/listin...-sherman-oaks/ |

The middle picture is looking west on East Colorado towards the intersection of South Adams. The 1930 Glendale CD has: https://i.imgur.com/k00TN4f.jpg ancestry.com There is a roof sign: https://i.imgur.com/325QuGW.jpg ...which when reversed says: https://i.imgur.com/rDduNuk.jpg And the CD has: https://i.imgur.com/kWku2Hr.jpg ancestry.com Here is a Sanborn which shows the location of the intersection of S Adams and E Colorado: https://i.imgur.com/HSOABbE.jpg lapl.org It also shows a drug store at 1024-8 E Colorado (sw corner of Adams/Colorado) seen in the photo, which is confirmed by the CD: https://i.imgur.com/uUDPMCA.jpg ancestry.com The CD has a Pepper Tree Inn restaurant at 1114 E Colorado at the same place as the Driftwood. I bet if one slogged through the CDs, we might find a name change. In 1930 there were some photographers on E Colorado, but none with "Quality" in their name. |

Oh, my. I'd been going crazy searching for Barus. I did find a "Quality Photo Shop" in the directory for 1948 at 133 N Glendale Ave. And I think it that actually IS a photo of Glendale Ave. (third photo) because it has a single set of tracks, unlike Brand which has two sets. The buildings didn't look right, though. I'll have to take another look. Looks like the house at 215 N. Everett st. matches one in the upper-right of the third photo. https://i.postimg.cc/L8ByL7R4/Edited-Glendale-Ave.jpg CSUN (modified) https://i.postimg.cc/pTzMjvWG/Everett.jpg Google Earth |

5540 Hollywood Boulevard, built as I take it in 1921, has had some interesting tenants. Here are a few: https://i.postimg.cc/bNTvm4Yd/5540-Holl-LAT-29-2-19.jpg LA Times, 2/19/1929 Searching on the Le Roy Bagley name will yield an interesting though very uncheerful collection of suicides and other deaths. https://i.postimg.cc/dVNVYdyY/5540-Holl-LAT-32-3-24.jpg LA Times, 3/24/1932 https://i.postimg.cc/jjWdd5HJ/5540-Holl-LAT-32-5-8.jpg LA Times, 5/8/1932 https://i.postimg.cc/85MpM0np/5540-Holl-LAT-58-8-23.jpg LA Times, 8/23/1953 The Timothy just mentioned was Timothy Getty, one of J. Paul Getty's children. |

Guess it was gone by the time I turned 11. I was pretty familiar with Hollywood at a young age, but I guess that location slipped by me... |
Did anybody else see this fascinating post on Twitter yesterday?

This is a 1945 photo of the Apollo. On the Los Angeles Theatres website it says the Apollo closed in 1971. https://ssl.c.photoshelter.com/img-g...ELYD89Iquw.jpgLAPL I happen to have seen Guest Wife earlier this year. It was très amusant. |
