[QUOTE=ethereal_reality;8580128]2717 Altura Avenue, La Crescenta, California. Pre-flood photo. [c.1931]
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/Fwwe1e.jpg Ebay I believe this little house has survived but there is no way to get a closer look at it. Was there, at one time, a street between (and running parallel with) Prospect and Altura Avenues? (you can see a line) The way it is now, 2717 Altura is three house in from the actual street. ...How did that happen? https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/o2kVVu.jpg Check it out for yourself HERE And if that line between Prospect & Altura used to be an alleyway...it still doesn't make much sense. Here's why I think it's the same house. (the porch roof appears to match) .................................................................................................................................SOUTH is at the top. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...921/pl9w7O.jpggsv / NORTH is at the bottom. Looks like they have a community driveway back to the house. They are pretty far in. https://i.postimg.cc/xddNMpkg/house.png Google Street View |
How 'bout An Old CD of Noirishers.

Or you could go down the old cartological route - A baist of noirishers. or A sanborn of noirishers. :) |

Can we reach a consensus on the collective noun for Noirishers? It would be nice to resolve this matter so that we can begin bickering over the design of our softball team shirt.

I'm trying to figure out that writing, too. Can't wait to see a good scan of the image to see what it actually says. |

Brew 102 brewery has been mentioned recently. When was it torn down, and when did the brand go away? I remember driving by the brewery on the 101 just east of City Hall as late as the 1970s, maybe early 1980s (?). Why was it called Brew 102--what is 102? Did they try 102 formulations before hitting on the right one? |

And shorts? https://www.kcet.org/sites/kl/files/...x471-76448.jpgLAPLviaKCET Hollywood All Stars premiered their new uniforms April 1st (yes, April Fools Day) in 1950 and wore then through 1953. I'm guessing sliding into 2nd base was drastically reduced. |

I remember some color Hollywood area photos posted once concerning a flood that occurred in 1962 when mud washed down into the area from the hills. I don't recall these were posted anywhere though (didn't find them in a search, but I couldn't find those others I mentioned, either).
Hollywood Blvd. outside the Music Box Theatre, aka the Pix Theatre, aka the Henry Fonda Theatre. On the left, the Hollywood Gun Shop. https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NBn9YA48h...ox-Ault-62.jpgSean Ault via L.A. Theatres Sergeants 3 is playing at the Pix, starring, it appears, the entire Rat Pack: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. A Closer Look: Pantages blade sign on the right. On the left: Eddie's Food Cocktails, a "Hotel" blade sign (don't recall a Hotel there...)*** ...and a yellow and green sign that says "Blue Chip Stamps." Maybe it's blue, not green? Also a row of those Hollywood street lamps with orange stars on them. ***Thanks to HossC (post below) one can see atop the Hotel blade sign it says "Hastings" for Hastings Hotel. With the condensed nature of the photo, I thought the Hotel was almost next to the Pix, but now see it wasn't from the photo below. (Also, the Pix is the Fox in that photo.) Hastings Hotel aka Regent aka Vermillion. Also thanks to NoirNoir for more Hastings info and photo. https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TLIfzxTKq...icBox-62-2.jpg A newspaper photo of the damage. https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8H67HuSky...intageLA-1.jpgVLA Facebook Page |
