Thanks BillinGlendaleCA, Lorendoc & Handsome Stranger.
I'll have to check out the parking lot that used to be behind the Hollywood Hotel. __________________________________________ I just happened upon this group of four slides from the Los Angeles Planning Department, circa 1971 & 72. and guess what...they are ALL 'mystery' locations! #1 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/hm0525.jpg EBAY #2 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/dRddrC.jpg EBAY #3 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/zlknDY.jpg EBAY #4 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/bodFaI.jpg EBAY CLUES https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/M0Ptyb.jpg Good luck! :) __ |

I am pretty sure this photo has not been previously posted on NLA, but it would help if you could search "USO" or "U.S.O." along with "Hollywood!"
Noirishers may recall this fantastic kodachrome photo E_R posted: Quote:
This Hollywood U.S.O. opened on February 2, 1942, which was eight months prior to the opening of the Hollywood Canteen, 1451 N. Cahuenga Blvd., just South of Sunset Blvd., and the Hollywood U.S.O. relocated eight months after the Canteen opened, to it's second location. Here's a 1943 photo of the above building. The first Hollywood U.S.O. moved in June, 1943, and it appears this photo was taken after that, as the U.S.O. signs in the color photo are gone. Quote:
NoirCityDame posted this 1935 photo of that building from the opposite direction and you can see the door entrance for the U.S.O. She noted that the U.S.O. was on the second floor. (Probably why they moved.) She had later posted some interior shots of the place, but photobucket deleted most of her photos. http://catalog.library.ca.gov/exlibr...EXDC1UMMBA.jpg This is the photo I believe is new to NLA. It's of the Hollywood U.S.O. at it's new location on Cahuenga Blvd. http://catalog.library.ca.gov/exlibr...XBX5QD2MTN.jpgCalifornia State Library The info at the link indicates it was a postcard photo. Date listed as [194-?]. It does not include an address. If am correct in assuming this, it is 1531 Cahuenga Blvd. The current GSV image has one story buildings at this address, though they may not be the same one as in the photo. If you "photo search" the photo I don't find it appearing anywhere else, either. |

Heeeeere's Murray's https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/U7FDAe.jpg GSV But I wasn't able to locate the old wooden garage in the foreground of the slide. THIS ONE https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/9szzJz.jpg detail You can pretty much figure out where it was located by looking at this aerial (Murray's has the red star) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/tyNdL5.jpg What do you think.....is that about right? oh, and one more thing: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/2...924/knm1AO.jpg I thought I'd point out this nearby attractive building. 3209 Dobinson St. [built 1912] RENOVATED 1930 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/YEsc3f.jpg GSV Here it is in relation to Murray's Automotive. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/Td3CZ2.jpg |
