That first shot is really cool. And it's been a long time since I've seen any rattlers on the east coast.

National Parks in India open at 6 am. A lottery is held and routes are distributed evenly. A Park guide must be hired to accompany the vehicle in the Park. Some Parks close again from 930 am to 3 pm and then for the night at 6 pm. Vehicles must stay on track and on the assigned route.
Elephants can go off-road and that is when we got our best tiger viewing from on top of elephants.
I saw a total of 18 Asiatic lions, and saw a Jungle cat although it was moving too fast to shoot a picture of. They aren't rare but they are rarely seen.

trance dancing with the siddis.
the siddis are from Africa and live in Gujarat India.
I am including them in this thread because they are an ancient traditional culture who see themselves as part of the natural world.
they drummed, breathed fire, threw hot coals to each other, danced, built human pyramids and even hoisted me up on top of someone's shoulders and danced me around the fire.
I looked all around for my peeps to see if they were joining in the fun, but none of them were there.
They went for dinner instead. I was the only non-Indian in the crowd which was great.

This mute swan attacked me which is why this pic is a little blurry. After this shot, the pictures were just a blur as the beak went for the boys and I did a little dance to avoid the beak finding its target.
Unfortunately, the swan was killed February 16. The island vet who examined the body said it appeared it was a canine who attacked it as there were holes caused by teeth in the neck.
The vet theorized that the swan was able to fly away from the attack but then drowned in the ocean.
There is a dog-wolf at large on the island eating pets and deer, and it is not known if it was the culprit or not.

Sorry!

Naw, but y'all have the eastern painted buntings in the winter. They summer up the coast from y'all in Georgia and the Carolinas. The ones we have are mostly from Mexico and Central America. They summer in the Texas Hill Country north up to Oklahoma, Arkansas and east over to Louisiana.

The glaciers at Banff have almost completely melted away, its really sad.

BevoLJ Jun 27, 2011 2:27 AM

When I was a kid we went up there for the '88 Olympics and I remember Banff was one of the most amazing places I saw as a kid. We used to summer up in NW Montana and over in Victoria, BC. So I was used to a lot of that kinda environment. But still it was a very beautiful place. I haven't had a chance to go back, and have heard that both it and Glacier National Park down in Montana have melted a lot. Very sad. Kinda rather remember it how I remember it from when I was a kid. =)

This hummingbird has been visiting our feeder every weekend for the last month and a half. It's almost like clockwork. We have the feeder hanging right outside the living room window in the backyard. I'll be sitting here on the computer sometimes and see it fly up. I've stood up and gotten ready to take a photo, and it actually flies up to the window and looks at me. It's the craziest thing.
