These two shots were taken from the new Pullman Hotel on Tran Hung Dao St in D1. Sexy looking place.

Saskatchewan?!? You're a long way from home. I don't think you could find two different places. :haha:

Some projections have HCMC growing to more than 15mm by 2025. That would make this city truly a megacity. Now, if only we could do something about the public transport situation. It's bloody awful!!

Lots of good things happening, though it should be noted that there are also lots of failed projects all around the city - hulking, half-built structures.

It's hard to believe that the metro's only a couple years out. Been saying that for a while, though.

Le Loi St is down to just a couple lanes, so traffic won't be fun for the foreseeable future!

Good update. Thanks.

Saigon downtown is filled with under ground metro contructions now

http://l.f30.img.vnecdn.net/2014/08/...1414_660x0.jpg
http://l.f31.img.vnecdn.net/2014/08/...ro-2_660x0.jpg
http://l.f31.img.vnecdn.net/2014/08/...ro-4_660x0.jpg
http://l.f32.img.vnecdn.net/2014/08/...2596_660x0.jpg
Sau đó tuyến metro tiếp tục vượt đường Điện Biên Phủ, băng qua sông Sài Gòn rồi đi song song Xa lộ Hà Nộ

http://l.f31.img.vnecdn.net/2014/08/...5976_660x0.jpg

Wow, pretty amazing stuff happening in Vietnam.

Dr Awesomesauce Oct 5, 2014 10:26 AM

^Some good things are happening in VN, it's true.

But people are flooding into Ho Chi Minh City by the thousands causing an almost impossible traffic situation/ pollution levels. The coming metro line will help but until the network spans the whole city, it'll do little to alleviate the horrendous congestion that currently exists.

It's a good start, however.

KoolKool Oct 28, 2014 10:37 PM

ok this project is all set . under construction now. tallest building in Saigon on the Tân Cảng Area. which is a port but they use this port land to build this Vincom Central park now. so in 2 year you guys will see a completely new skyline of Saigon. since this project is locate along the river north to downtown.

A shame to hear about all the buildings being torn down. I wonder why they are building all these tall towers everywhere without the demand? Is it tied to some sort of communist initiatives? or is it just that they are cheap to build right now?

Dr Awesomesauce Feb 6, 2015 12:45 AM

^I dunno. I don't pretend to be an expert but...

I think it's just a product of the typical Third World economy - everybody's trying to get their buildings up and filled before the bubble bursts. All across the city you see massive, partially built monoliths just sitting empty for one reason or another.

Dr Awesomesauce Feb 6, 2015 12:50 AM

RE NGUYEN HUE

That really is a massive project. Creating space for pedestrians is good idea, especially in HCMC but I cringe at the thought of a 50ft gold statue of Uncle Ho - it's weird...
