Interesting comment on the model:

What have you just seen? A model of Los Angeles, built by the WPA from 1938-40, for the purposes of city planning (via which they evidently deduced “it all goes!”)…on a related note, this model was once many, many times larger. The County (whose infinite wisdom never ceases to inspire) dumpster’d the majority of it in the 70s.

Incredible, just throwing it out. May someone have wanted to buy it, or take it for free? I mean, really.

Yeah, you rite. I had some bad information there. But I'm SURE that Bright Eyes was filmed there.

Re "Bright Eyes"--there may have been scenes actually filmed at Grand Central, but the airplane interior was a mockup with process film seen through the windows.

Wendy's intertwined with an impossibly young Richard Greene. Gregory Ratoff directly behind Shirley.

Actually looking at the vintage shot, to the right of the bridge is a sort of retaining embankment, could it be the one above, would put the bridge about where the railings are I reckon

This part of Third Street is now Third Street Promenade, so there's no Streetview image. This one was taken from Broadway.

Here's the bridge in 1953. At the time it was still the only bridge over Olympic in this area.

It looks like the bridge was still there in 1980, but the area to the north had been cleared. Just to the east is the much wider Avenue of the Stars.

This 2004 image (converted to grayscale to match the others) is pretty similar to what you'd see today.

The tower that now stands at southern end of the old bridge location (the base of which is visible at the top of Joe Gillis's aerial picture) is Fox Plaza, better known to fans of 'Die Hard' as Nakatomi Plaza.
