Awesome. I hope what gets put there is great and changes that area for the good.

Good design is key... I would hate to see another "Broadway" built. I hope it connects well with the street to give it a good walkable and urban feel to that space and create real density. I hope it also makes use of the space alongside St. Mary's St. and provides a bit of a nice welcome to DT on that corner, or at least a better job than that which we get on Alamo.

It looks like it could easily be more than 7 floors along the river side; the Hyatt Place a bit north is 7 and the HDRC was okay with the shadows that produced. For that price tag, it seems like they would have to maximize the the usage to get a good return. I'm imagining something like this with maybe an extra plaza or public space on the right corner. Something like this would make use of that long lot and address the river, Chavez and St. Mary's side while keeping the "back of the building" out of sight.

It's good to see that lot getting developed. Nice design too. The potential in that area is exciting and I hope this development is the start of some good momentum.

They could have gone taller but I think this project is pretty nice. It mostly interacts with the street and the river well and it is certainly not ugly imo. I'll take it.

The garage sticking out of the top is pretty weird, though.

Well that parking garage seems to have caught HDRC's eyes as well.

Is there any retail or office in this development? Not sure about retail although that would have been great. With the radio tower still in the renderings, however, it looks like maybe there could be a little office or something?

It's not ugly and while I'm generally happy the site is getting developed, I can't help but feel this design is just bland. It fits in well with some of Austin's "modern" (cook-cutter to me) downtown developments and I would have liked to see something more fitting of its location along the river.

Chavez and St. Mary's are both well traveled streets and this building is the bridge between downtown and Southtown, so I would have liked to see some ground level retail or small office space. Something that generates a little more street-level activity, especially at the intersection.

Or at least more color? :shrug:

Right on, buddy!! Excellent comment. Hopefully St. Mary's curbside will see some development later to hide all that "blah", something looking like Losoya Street would be nice. Looks like theres room for it. And it would be AWESOME if the antenna tower could be converted to a sculpture of some kind. Arists of SA Unite!!

I'm suggesting units instead of height as this and many other current projects aren't really adding height downtown. But they are adding density, which will lead to height soon.

I understand the opposition to tearing down the Univision building because of historical reasons, but at the same time it's a really ugly building.

There's no historical value to the building itself, only what the place represents. Tear down the building and put up a plaque (like the historical markers you see dotting the highways) documenting the significance, that way everyone is happy. What's up with the people in this city thinking that every building needs to be preserved / reused? #smh
