Wonderful. Thank you Austinlee! Here’s to hoping this gets filled with many new projects and good urbanism!

Minivan Werner Nov 23, 2017 7:02 PM

I wasn't aware of that Walnut Capital / Mark Cuban development, and I couldn't even picture the building in my head and had to look at it on street view. It's seen some better days but looks like a nice rehab in a prominent location. Some old school faux-neon signage on the steel lattice at the top would look cool.

Wally G Nov 23, 2017 8:20 PM

Great job Austinlee on the new thread!

Bonnern19 Nov 24, 2017 6:48 AM

Thank you for putting this together. I love seeing all the development in my city, even though I now live in Kansas City. I have a few questions.

1) I'm most excited about the Strip District renovation and the Almono/Igloo sites. Do you know when these projects are going to break ground?

2) Are they waiting on the Almono and Igloo sites to see if Amazon chooses Pittsburgh for its second headquarters? I think Pittsburgh has a legitimate shot at it and it'd be worth pausing to give them an opportunity to use on of those sites. I think they'd fit perfectly with the Almono site and that Mill 19 building.

Again, thank you for putting all of this together, and I hope yins all had a great Thanksgiving.

BrianTH Nov 24, 2017 6:40 PM

Awesome! Let's go!

evz922 Nov 24, 2017 11:00 PM

Love the new thread! Great job! The only other projects that I can think of are the Distrikt Fifteen office building in the strip, the Penn Rose apartment conversion in the strip, maybe a couple of smaller condo conversions/additions in the strip, the new large apartment building going in on the Southside (Pittsburgh Flats?), and the power plant in Uptown.

AaronPGH Nov 24, 2017 11:50 PM

Thanks for this, Austin! Much needed.

Any news on the Tryp hotel project in Lawrenceville?

A huge red construction crane is up and running at the Squirrel Hills site. The Forward and Murray site is confusing. I am not sure which project the red crane is for. It is visible as you enter and exit the Squirrel Hill Tunnels

I may be mistaken, but I believe only the Action Housing project (Squirrel Hill Gateway Lofts) on the former Poli site is underway at this time.

The neighboring Forward Square project was just announced this summer.

Bricktrimble Nov 27, 2017 6:25 PM

Great start (continuation) to this site. So excited to see all of this happening in the 'burgh.

BrianTH Nov 28, 2017 1:21 PM

Nice roundup of what is coming soon to Uptown and how small local businesses are preparing to capitalize:

http://www.post-gazette.com/local/ci...s/201711250007

There are a couple notes about how rough/dangerous it was in the 1990s compared to now. That is a general national trend (urban crime peaked in the early 1990s and has come way down since then), and I think it is absolutely critical to the resurgence of neighborhoods like this.

themaguffin Nov 28, 2017 4:12 PM

Uptown has so much potential. It's a direct line to downtown and Oakland.
Also, the mix of older buildings with potential + empty lots....

Since this is only a concept it might be beneficial to add the other concept for this site as well from AE7. I like this one much better not only because of the 70 story tower but because the architecture of the buildings in BIG's proposal makes the development appear to focus in on itself instead of the surrounding area.
