The Ebay seller seems to think it's Hoover and Washington. At that corner you would have found the Triangle Pharmacy. I think the line in the middle of the card above might say "The Soda Fountain at the Triangle".

I always thought this house looked like a Moderne junior high school with a fancy front door (actually, it looks like Pola Negri's front door was tacked on). But what do I know? Designed by Lloyd Wright in 1935, it's at 615 N. Faring Road, or was (I didn't dig & dig, but it appears to have been torn down).

I'm hoping this is an early Christmas gift to GW. :)

I found a listing for 615 N Faring Road at hiltonhyland.com that describes it as "Holmby Hills flat parcel North of Sunset. Approximately 2/3 of an acre." Google Earth shows a property on that site until sometime in 2008, but I don't know if was Claudette Colbert's old house.

The cafeteria concept may not have been completely settled when the Angles Flight-Vegetarian first got started.

The 1909 directory listed a Vegetarian "cafe" at 259 S. The "2" circled in the top photo indicates the former site of the William Lacy/John G. Bullock house (sw corner of Wilshire & Vermont); it was moved to 627 South Plymouth in Windsor Square, where it still stands. That story is complete:

West Lake Signal Office
 

Fire Alarms in most of L.A. reported to the West Lake Signal Office on 6th near Alvarado. I know a photo of the building exist but have not found it yet.

It still stands, with additions, at 2228 West 6th St.--faces into MacArthur Park. Built in 1924, architect J W Wilson per the Times of Feb 10, 1924.

Love your blog, but I have to say, every time I see that picture of the former I. Magnin store, I wonder when some vandal is going to buy it, tear it down, and replace it with yet another boring, featureless highrise.

What a surprise! I would have bet money the alarm center was long gone. Now I want to go inside!

Residential Wilshire Blvd.
 

To the poster responsible for the fascinating site on Wilshire Blvd. when it was residential, thank you! Any information on the old Victorian mansions on Wilshire, presumably near downtown, photographed in color by Charles Cushman?

In the early 1900s, Casa Verdugo was an independent settlement in what is now northwest Glendale.

In 1904 L.C. Brand brought the Pacific Electric Railway out to the 'netherlands' of Casa Verdugo. At the end of the line, the railway company
turned an old adobe into a restaurant, hoping to entice visitors to take the scenic ride. The property was leased to Piedad Yorba de Sowl,
and was an immediate success.
