Syndic, I still wish I'd thought to ask you to find out what architectural firm your friend's friend worked for, so we'd at least know which website we should start stalking for renderings of "unidentified" projects which clearly have some of our already-built recognizable skyscrapers in the background. :D

Good luck on your new job.

Congratulations. You work for facebook now, right? It will be fun when you know all the details and get to watch us all pontificate lol

What is the deal with that post office site? Such prime real estate. Why is it taking so long for something to get going there. Rumors regarding that site have been sparse for like a year!

Oh, there's rumors, but accompanied by NDAs. :notacrook:

They are, but we haven't seen any renderings, and I doubt they'd spend any money doing that, so we'll just have to wait and watch.

It's hard to stay current with the number of tower cranes up around Downtown and adjacent areas. There are a lot of mid-rises going up and their cranes come and go pretty quickly. Here's my list for now:

Medical Center - 8
U.T. Eng Building - 1
Seaholm - 3
Green Water - 3
Millennium Rainey - 2
Fairmont - 1
Hotel Indigo - 1
Aspen Heights - 1
5th & Colorado - 1
East Side Village -1
University House - 1
Total = 23

There has to be a few more that I didn't count around West Campus and the East Side of 1-35. A total of six more will be going up soon for Rowling Hall, UT's HQ and the Fairmont.

KevinFromTexas May 3, 2015 8:41 PM

University House - 1
St. David's Medical Association HQ - 1 (this one is close to coming down, though).
Greenview Condominiums - 1 (South Lamar)

I figure there's at least 25 cranes in Austin that we know about, and maybe some more.

I edited my post to include University House. I thought the crane for St. Davids' came down. Greenview is a new one to me.

There's also at least 4 in N/NW Austin, including 2 at The Domain, one on Braker (Quarry Oaks) and another on 183 at Riata (Research Plaza).

KevinFromTexas May 3, 2015 9:19 PM

Wow. I forgot about those. And there might still be one at the airport. I can't remember. Plus if we count what's outside of Austin in the metro, there's that one in Georgetown now working on the convention hotel, plus San Marcos has had at least 2 working on something now for what seems like a decade. Also, aren't there still cranes working on the Hotel Granduca and Capital Ridge project? That would be two more for an exact total of 34 in the metro, and 31 in Austin.

That St. David's one may have come down. I'm not sure. Here's the Greenview project. Scroll down to see Mike's photo update. You can see some renderings and photos of the views on the page before that.

Could Facebook be building on the Austin Music Hall site?

Syndic May 5, 2015 2:28 AM

Already talked about this. See the Block 185 thread.

Hey Matt, where, what and when? :)

_Matt May 5, 2015 6:46 PM

Oh, I see now Syndic.

Midtown, start at the last post of Block 185 Page 3 and read the next 4-5 posts for the full discussion.

Austin Ballet Site

No CVC. Could go a lot higher than the Austin Music Hall site since there is no Shoal Creek setback.

I've also been wondering if there's any chatter about a future development on that lot.

Another big event coming to Austin starting next year. The PGA is bringing the Match Play Championship to Austin Country Club for the next 4 years. The world's top 64 players will be here. Next year it will be March 23-27, 2 weeks before The Masters.

Even more international publicity for our little slice of Heaven. And the course will flip their front 9 to the back 9 so it's on TV more. Those 9 holes are right along the river and Pennybacker bridge.

the Genral May 6, 2015 4:26 AM

I wonder why 8% of the members would vote against having this event here? Its definately not the first time big named golfers and tournaments have been held here...The Legends originated and played at Onion Creek back in the 80's and the Senior's tour played out by Lake Travis, but this is much bigger in terms of more current and higher caliber level of golf. I attended the other two tours when they were here and I hope to get in to this one. I think the course will look amazing on tv and give a different perspective on the Austin topography. This is not hyperbole, this really is a big deal and yet another validation that Austin is becoming a world class city.

futures May 6, 2015 5:31 PM

that seems like a great win for Austin. Although it's right in the middle of SXSW and the Rodeo...
