Mercado Plaza had another location at 413 N. Main before moving to 427 N. Main from 1939. In 1942 the proprietor Katsuke Shishima was forced to sell up before he was interned. Here's an interior shot of the 413 N. Main location. It became a pool and billiards hall when the Mercado Plaza moved to 427 Main St. https://i.imgur.com/8d4aiTY.jpg americanhistory.si.edu A look inside the Mercado Plaza at 427 N.Main St. https://i.imgur.com/prjJEYe.jpg Screen capture from a short video in which Katsuke's son Bill talks about his life. https://vimeo.com/94040698 |

Not too long ago I read about a staged fur robbery that had taken place in Los Angeles (back in the 1950s) but was never able to find any details. I think I finally found the culprit. .................................................................................................This dude. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/8huF3j.jpg tim / pinterest "Furrier to the stars Al Teitelbaum was the owner of Teitelbaum Furs on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills. On Dec. 27, 1955, he staged a fake fur heist to get insurance money and later went to jail." While trying to find additional details about the robbery I happened upon this snapshot of Teitelbaum's Fur Store with an amazingly streamlined car parked in front of his store. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...924/OtaAgV.jpg kustomrama Do you think that's Teitelbaum's car?..... . .and could that be Teitelbaum standing next to it?.......Is he coordinating the fur heist? ...kidding Here's the description of the photograph over at Kustomrama "A photo of the Dan La Lee retractable streamliner that Roger Babler's parents took outside Teitelbaum Furs in Los Angeles in 1939. They lived in Monticello, Wisconsin, a small village straight south of Madison and were going on a month long honeymoon trip through the south and west. Photo courtesy of Roger Babler." At first I confused Dan La Lee with Don Lee. A comment at Kustomrama says the building in the snapshot is in Hollywood. . .not Rodeo Drive. oops. I forgot all about the staged fur robbery. . |

Here's the Trancas Restaurant at 30763 Pacific Coast Highway. https://i809.photobucket.com/albums/...LATrancas1.jpg www.pinterest.com From the Pepperdine Libraries Digital Collections: "The Trancas Restaurant was built in 1949 after the Malibu Trading Post, on the same location, burned down. Today, there is a Starbucks Coffee shop at this location, which is in western Malibu at Trancas Canyon Road on the Pacific Coast Highway. This postcard [see link] showing the interior patio dining area is likely from the 1960s."The view below roughly lines up with Godzilla's photo. The Starbucks near the center must be the one mentioned above. https://i809.photobucket.com/albums/...LATrancas2.jpg Google Maps |

There's a good possibliity we have seen it. (on NLA) https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...923/JZGlHZ.jpg pinterest / originally from LAPL (but I couldn't find it on LAPL) "Man waiting at hotel entrance. Double-sided sign above door reads "N. Spring Hotel" on one side, and "Spring Hotel" on the other, the "N" having worn away. This is the hotel entrance on N. Spring Street side to the second floor of the Sentous Building." My question is: If a hotel is entirely on the second floor then where is the office? ...Do they have someone sitting on a folding chair in the hallway taking money? Also...Who's the dude in the photo? . |

Now here's a an interesting RPPC that I saw on eBay. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/oBTWYs.jpg eBay and the details https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...924/UyeVuK.jpg So when was Roosevelt in Hollywood? Here's a closer look. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...923/8gj1sX.jpg What I thought was bunting, purses and coats is actually a woman lying on the bench. . |

....Here's one more post for this stay-at-home Saturday night. .....................................................A mystery. ......................Did Grauman's Theater hire Giants as ushers? https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/Z7aWGS.jpg eBay THE REVERSE https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/1...922/th3ZCK.jpg It looks like the date is Sept. 18, 1945. Mainly what I remember about Pasadena in 1975 was when I would take deep breaths in the smog poisoned air, my poor New England lungs would ache. And I only mentioned my TV show to show I know wtf I'm talking about when it comes to CBD. I've interviewed farmers, manufacturers, even testing facilities. I guess someone who just talks out of his ass wouldn't understand framing a comment with bona fides... |

Congratulations: Gaylord and Kevin, today you both managed to utter your usual potty mouth snarky comments.
At least er has kind words for me and other Forum members. Occasionally I make mistakes in my comments...wow big deal. Here on NLA there's a huge squad of Internet Cops who read my every word with great interest. Its very flattering and thank you all.   |
