From that perspective, the Seattle skyline would block the mountain ;)

superb! is it me, or when I was in Vancouver for a couple of days, clear clear blue skies, no clouds at all, big sun, I never saw Mount Baker? I barely felt its distant presence from the ferry between Vancouver and Victoria.

What is Burnaby? An edge city? Is it impressive in itself? Its skyline looks big.

vanman Feb 7, 2007 6:28 PM

Burnaby is Vancouver's closest suburb, population is just over 200 000. The tall buildings you see is in the metrotown area, and the buildings are mainly residential but there are a few significant office buildings as well.

Amazing indeed.

I love how Vancouver's street grid just keeps going and going. Reminds me of SF. In the center of the pic, is that an old rail corridor where the buildings look larger and there are no trees?

WOah that picture is such an exaggeration, and is more likely a trick of the camera!!! Mt Baker does not look that big from Vancouver, trust me I grew up near Mt Baker (even climbed it a few times), and it does not look that huge from Vancouver on the ground.

That being said Mt baker is still rather large, you can see it from both Seattle and Vancouver. Mt Baker is MUCH SMALER in comparsion to Mt rainier. Howeer Mt Baker has one of the largest Glacial networks in the lower 48 states outside of Alaska.

Still those are great pics.

Is that a main reason why Downtown Vancouver gains density go quickly? What is that forest?

Weird. Doesn't seem to be a lot of connectors (roads) to downtown ... and not a lot of traffic on them either. Is there a subway or light rail? Guessing it doesn't have as much of a car culture.

The whole idea is to live and work downtown, and thats why there is an odsene amount of condos downtown, so much there even worried about business leaving downtown. I'm surprised myself how Vancouver's traffic flows so well considering that there are barely any freeways (there might actually be zero freeways in vancouver proper, im sure someone will be able to correct/confirm that).

Right now there are two light rail "skytrains", and they are currently building 2 more. One of which is the canada line that goes from downtown to ricmond and the airport (theres prolly a thread about it here).
