Yes STR, that is more like what I was anticipating for the base..

It sure will be nice when this "Oil Refinery-like" portion of the tower is clad with that prismatic glass.

The vents on the mechanical floors near the top of the tower are done just like the base, stainless steel grating behind the glass but wider spacing on the glass panels. (The grating keeps the birds out.)

There is a louver wall about 4 feet behind the curtain wall/ cladding so it would be imposable for someone to actually fall through the vent openings in the exterior cladding, if they could even get to them. There are all kinds of plenums conectiong to the louver wall.

it looks more like they are doing every other panel, look at this picture and you will see like a "placeholder: similar in size to the piece of glass next to it (near the elevator)

Will construction speed up as the building gets higher? The floor area's getting smaller as it goes up, so wouldn't it make sense that it only gets faster?

Keep in mind that it's getting taller (longer to transport goods up) and colder (winter in NYC = snow and wind) but with the smaller floorplates from here up, I would guess that the progress will remain the same.

:previous: :previous: footprints dont get really smaller. It goes from a octagon to a square to a octagon to a square. The floor plate does shrink some as it rises, but not enough to make a big difference

Actually, it does get smaller. From the first floor above the base, it starts as a square. At the midway point, it will be an octagon with the widest point being the length of the original square. At the top, it will finish a square with the diagonal being the length of the original square. Knowing this, the floorplate will actually be half the original:

looking up at the towers sounds good for me. If you ever get a chance you should finish the original model. It was one of a kind

^I went with Mr. Lions idea. Shooting on Greenwich St, across the street from DB site. It looks like it will take an hour and ten minutes to finish up. Not that yours was a bad idea, but he posted before you did.

Hate to sound stupid....but in this photo it looks like they go every other piece. Why do they do this?? I figured it would be one solid piece after another.

I can't wait until March to see this bad boy. It is going to be completely different than August when I was there last.
