Yes STR, that is more like what I was anticipating for the base..
It sure will be nice when this "Oil Refinery-like" portion of the tower is clad with that prismatic glass. |

There is a louver wall about 4 feet behind the curtain wall/ cladding so it would be imposable for someone to actually fall through the vent openings in the exterior cladding, if they could even get to them. There are all kinds of plenums conectiong to the louver wall. |

Will construction speed up as the building gets higher? The floor area's getting smaller as it goes up, so wouldn't it make sense that it only gets faster?
|
it gets annoying when people repeat the same questions

One more, since everyone liked the first two so much.

:D Some people are just joining this thread in progress. We should all have some sympathy... Would you really want to read over every comment in 500 or more pages? |

Keep in mind that it's getting taller (longer to transport goods up) and colder (winter in NYC = snow and wind) but with the smaller floorplates from here up, I would guess that the progress will remain the same.

Actually, it does get smaller. From the first floor above the base, it starts as a square. At the midway point, it will be an octagon with the widest point being the length of the original square. At the top, it will finish a square with the diagonal being the length of the original square. Knowing this, the floorplate will actually be half the original: http://i398.photobucket.com/albums/p...rplateinfo.png |
So...when I'm done here, who wants a big-ass 3000 or 4000 pixel high/wide render? If so, from where?

^^^^ Looking at it from the top, at an angle. Not a sharp angle, more of an obtuse... if you get my description.

^I went with Mr. Lions idea. Shooting on Greenwich St, across the street from DB site. It looks like it will take an hour and ten minutes to finish up. Not that yours was a bad idea, but he posted before you did.
EDIT: Hour and fourteen minutes. Won't be doing many of these, so enjoy. http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1100/supersize1.jpg |
^^^ oh wow if thats what its gonna look like its gonna be more iconic than i thought

^ The spire really brings the tower out.
Looking at more cladding, maybe in a day or so, the entire floor will be complete... http://www.bluemelon.com/photo/18589/991019.jpg in.formed http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4084/...599d56f8_b.jpg http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1418/...bdfe42ab_b.jpg |

I can't wait until March to see this bad boy. It is going to be completely different than August when I was there last.
