I'm with you

At just over 500ksf, this isn't going to be that small a tower.

EDIT:Actually, it looks like this thread should be merged with the AMEX one:

More renderings on Curbed if someone could figure out how to post them, that'd be great. Pretty odd looking building, especially bad when you consider what'll be demolished for this.

Selldorf Designing Faceted-Facade Tower Facing the WTC

"Six months ago, when a corner site south of the World Trade Center sold for $48 million as part of a deal at the old American Stock Exchange, there was no word of what would rise there. But a design from Selldorf Architects has popped up for that plot, rising 54 stories at the corner of Thames and Greenwich. The designs for 22 Thames Street show a prismatic tower, topping out a few feet taller than the W Downtown a half block to the west. On the first five floors, tucked inside a base of irregular glass bays, is retail and residential recreation space, topped by two floors designated for "performing arts."

Rising above and reaching 637 feet, the tower features a faceted facade filled with 428 residential units. Last month the creative team at Selldorf posted a video showing the louvered façade system, a "second skin" controlled by each individual dweller, and described thusly: "Cloaking the façade, a system of operable terracotta louvers animates the building with its changing configurations and reflectivity..."

It looks pretty good.

Should be 200 ft. higher, IMO, but Selldorf is a quality architect, and the final product will likely be nice.

Onn Feb 5, 2013 4:56 PM

Yes PLEASE! That looks amazing! If built it would become an essential component to the WTC site.

DURKEY427 Feb 5, 2013 5:13 PM

I just saw it and im already in love with it!

hunser Feb 5, 2013 5:28 PM

Design is ok with me, the height not so much. Expected at least to break the 200m mark. :frog:

While the renderings look intriguing, I'm really sad about the loss of the existing building here. It really is incredible. There are so many crappy buildings in this little area and they've decided to tear down the arguably the nicest one. This is coming from someone who is normally very pro-development.

uaarkson Feb 5, 2013 6:12 PM

A dynamic facade? I bet this will be awesome. Still sad about the demolition though.

aquablue Feb 5, 2013 9:02 PM

I think the building being demolished is being overrated here. Nice, but nothing extraordinary. The only pleasing part is the cornice and arches of the uppermost floor, the rest is heavy and an un ornamented warehouse style building

I actually prefer this modern tower and I'm usually someone who wants to preserve older buildings if they merit it.

I remember seeing that rendering on the architects website, and thinking it was something outdated.

I think it looks great and as was said it would become a de facto part of the WTC complex.

jackster99 Feb 6, 2013 12:18 AM

Wow I love the facade. Imagine if that's the facade they had used for 432 park avenue. 1398 feet of that...oh my

scalziand Feb 6, 2013 12:43 AM

Now that's a cool facade.

easy as pie Feb 6, 2013 6:03 AM

very beautiful building on a very special site. imo, on a pure design level, this one is far superior to any of the wtc buildings.

NYC2ATX Feb 6, 2013 8:39 AM

Now THIS is a showstopper. :worship:

SkyscrapersOfNewYork Feb 6, 2013 3:12 PM

great facade treatment .I just wish it was taller and not a box.

NYC4Life Feb 6, 2013 6:12 PM

Facade looks a lot like the International Gem Tower in Midtown.

Duck From NY Feb 6, 2013 7:48 PM

As long as they get the materials right, this'll be a beauty. Considering it's a high-profile residential, I'd wager they'll do it right.

TowerVerre:) Feb 6, 2013 8:39 PM

I think every building should have something special. At this building it is the facade, at for example the one WTC it is the Form and 432 Park have its High :) I like all of them :D and I think a Skyline shouldnt be the Same all Time so it is good to have a collection of much Designs and boxes are Designs too:)
