I took that list and edited mSeatle's first post. Would be nice to have a complete compilation thread for Tacoma like we've got for Seattle and Bellevue. If you add more, make a note of it and I'll edit the first post. I might not visit this thread all the time, so if I don't respond after a while, PM me. |
Added a few if you would like to update.
|
Good activity going on. Should have a Tacoma Meet to cover them.

Construction Update 3-26
Hey there crew! Noticed the ol' Tacoma thread was a bit dead, so I decided to hop out of the shadows and add something to the community. I nabbed all these on my way home today.
This is 505 Broadway, taken from down on Stadium Way: http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/9...oadway1lm6.png From much closer up, despite the blurriness you can see the arches. Looks like it's being topped out real soon. http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/7...oadway2at1.png 505 again, only this time taken from Broadway. Looks easily 20' shorter from there. http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/9...oadway3jv5.png |
Construction Update 3-26 (Part 2)
The nearly-complete Chelsea Heights
From on 6th Ave: http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/8...seahts1ky7.png Look closely... see the snow? No joke! Got spoiled by that nice weather a couple weeks ago. http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1...seahts3qd7.png This one taken from I street... http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/4...seahts2di9.png |
Construction Update 3-26 (Part 3)
The Hillcrest Apartments
Taken from Neighbors Park on 8th and I http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7...lcrest1df9.png And finally, directly in front on 9th. Honestly, gotta be the tallest wood structure I've seen go up in a long time. http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/9...lcrest2gu0.png |
More
I'll get some more sites later (Like the Esplanade) when the weather clears up.
Anyone got anything in particular they'd like me to hit when I'm out next? Don't be shy! |
Nice job, some great looking projects there.
|
Thanks for the updates Tacoma Boy. Great to see the new stuff going up in Tacoma. Is that other taller somthing "Heights" building going up in the north end? I have to look at my old posts to get the name.
|
You are probably talking about Jay Heights:
http://www.priumcompanies.com/files/...fdb777b8eb.jpg photo from: Priumcompanies.com I think that project is on a long hold. The developer, Prium, purchased the Winthrop Hotel (low income housing) and has to build a bunch of replacement housing for the 200+ people that will be displaced when/if the building is converted back to a grand hotel. Winthrop Hotel: http://www.kevinfreitas.net/img/2006...inthrop-01.jpg Photo from KevinFreitas.net Prium is also the developer of the Chelsea Heights and Hana Heights projects that converted from condos to apartments. |

Yeah, Jay Heights is still an empty lot with a big ol fence around it. I emailed Prium and they say it's not been canceled, but other detail was left out. Considering Prium projects in T-town seem to have bumps along the way like how Chelsea Hts had a long delay at the end of 2007 (seriously, it was stopped for like 2 months) and considering how long it took Hanna to get going, I'd say the jury is still out on whether it'll actually go up or not. Personally, I'd love to see it rise up although renovating the Winthrop might justly deserve the priority. edit: Oh, I see the completion date on the Prium site is now 2009. It was 2007 when I emailed them. Interesting.... |
Construction Update 3-27-08
Much better weather today! As promised, the Esplanade:
Taken from across the Thea Foss http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/5...lanade1rr5.png Coming along nicely, as you can see from down on Dock Street. That's some of the last scaffolding left... http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/9...lanade2cy6.png Dig them cRaZy angles http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8...lanade3bw3.png Finally, from down the block by Thea's Landing http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/7...lanade4gn4.png |
Construction Update 3-27-08 (Part 2)
Bonus shots!
The new UWT auditorium from Pac Ave http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/4697/uwtxd8.png And a shot of 505 Broadway from down on Dock Street http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/4...oadway4hn2.png |
Construction Update 3-27-08 (Part 3)
The Vilaggio... very near completion now. All pics from Market.

Construction Update 3-27-08 (Part 4)
Metropolitan Phase 2
From St Helens. Lotsa yellow http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/3765/metro1zm9.png Taken from in front of Metro phase 1. I don't particularly like it from here... sorta featureless. That north wall looks awkward to me. http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/7960/metro2an7.png |
Construction Update 3-27-08 (Part 5)
Since mSeattle brought up the un-started Jay Heights, I decided to swing by the site. After all, it is only a block down from the Metropolitan.
Here's the sign. It looks in better condition than I remember it was. Maybe they put a new face on, cleaned it or something. http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2598/jayhts1rf9.png Through the fence, down into the lot. It's pretty decent sized, actually. http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/4760/jayhts2gb7.png For those not familliar with the area, this is taken from the site. The sandstone building is the Walker condo conversion. An old ex of mine once lived there, and I'm interested to see what they've done to it. The lobby was nice, but the apartments left a bit to be desired. To the left of the Walker is the Hannah Heights. It just occurred to me that all these Prium "heights" projects are all on 6th. If Jay goes up, you'll be able to see Chelsea from the higher floors as well. http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5904/jayhts3lv5.png A little scale reference here. The Deco building (taken again from the site) is City Hall. It's approximately the same height as Jay is slated to be. If I'm not mistaken, city hall is 233' tall. On the extreme right is the recently completed Roberson Condos. http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/2444/jayhts4be9.png |
